Overview

Capitalizing on the release of Mandy Moore's Coverage album, the soundtrack to A Walk to Remember, the movie in which she had her first starring role, returns with a spate of extra tracks. Compared to the autonomy she shows on Coverage, Moore sounds a little unformed on songs like the single "Cry" and the Jonathan Foreman duet "Someday We'll Know," as well as on "Only Hope" and "It's Gonna Be Love," but nevertheless, her delivery on these songs has the sensitivity and intelligence that has placed her above her teen pop contemporaries as they exit their teen years. Switchfoot's earnest performances on "Dare You to Move," "You," and the group's version of "Only Hope" are pleasant enough, but also reflect the fact that most of the characters in A Walk to Remember seem to be afraid of rock music. Indeed, Cold's brooding "No One" and West, Gould & Fitzgerald's punk-pop by numbers "So What Does It All Mean?," the album's most rock-oriented tracks, are among the album's weakest selections. Rachael Lampa's "If You Believe" is both overworked and forgettable; perhaps it was included to make Moore's songs look better by comparison. However, Toploader's effervescent cover of King Harvest's "Dancin' in the Moonlight" and the New Radicals' "Mother, We Just Can't Get Enough" are charming in their own right and two of the best non-Moore tracks on the album. The bonus tracks continue the mixed-bag quality of the soundtrack, with the Breeders' alt-rock classic "Cannonball" upping the ante as Fuel's turgid "Empty Spaces" and Noogie's blandly pleasant cover of the Easybeats' "Friday on My Mind" lower it. The expanded version of A Walk to Remember also includes Moore's video for "Cry"; while this is also included on the DVD of the movie, that, along with the bonus tracks, may be enough for some Moore fans to check out this soundtrack again.

Chick flick along with being a chick soundtrack. But, being as I'm a chick...hehe. This soudtrack is really awsome, Mandy's voice has come a long way since ''Candy'' (god I hated that song) Her voice is very mature and her rendition of the song ''Only Hope'' is absolutely stunning. I greatly enjoy all of these songs. ~mm

I was tempted to buy the soundtrack before i even saw the movie; however, I chose to wait. Now, after seeing the movie (a must see by the way) I'm thoroughly engaged by the soundtrack. The songs are just amazing. Switchfoot delivers awesome and emotional lyrics as does Mandy Moore. You can't help but fall in love with Only Hope (performed by both Mandy and Switchfoot). Dancin' in the Moonlight (performed by Toploader)is so infectious! These songs easily became the soundtrack to my own life. This is a must have for anyone who enjoys songs that make you feel good about life.

Wow! The movie was great but the soundtrack makes the movie any better. It might spring a few tears with its love ballads but its alternative songs can leave you bobbing your head!

I think this soundtrack is great for teens because they can relate to some of the songs that mandy moore sings like Only Hope. The other songs are interesting and express a lot of emotion.

This soundtrack is very good. I'll give a cryptic review that only those who saw the movie will understand. The music on this soundtrack is predominately ''Her people music'', which I find great. The best track on the album is ''Only Hope'' one of the few songs I know that could have two renditions on it and both are great. This song sings like a prayer, which it really is, being the best ''her people's music'' on the album.

this is a great movie. i saw it the first day it came out. and many more times after that. my mom thinks to many times. this was a great movie and they picked some really great songs to put on the sound track. i never really liked many before i saw the movie but now i love her. and as for shane west hes not that bad looking either and i love the fact that he has a song on the soundtrack!

This is my favorite soundtrack and one of the best by far. I am a big fan of almost all of the artists on that soundtrack. Switchfoot writes amazing songs w/ great music. They are a very inspiring band and I think they added a lot to the soundtrack. Their song ''Only Hope'' is awesome and hard not to love. I guess the people who did the movie and mandy moore thought the same. Mandy does a good job on the song too. Switchfoot is the best and am so happy that they featured them on the soundtrack!

Not only did I love the movie, the soundtrack rocks. the music has a very lite rock meets pop and metal feel. The love songs are great and you can jam out too.

I loved the album! It mixes pop songs with rock songs and I love both. The song by Jonny Was is great and just shows that two musicians can be great actors in a film together. The movie was great and seeing Mandy and Shane cry as if they were really hurt made me remember personal experiences with the same situations. It's the only movie that has ever made me cry!

This soundtrack is the best yet. I love it. Mandy Moore is a great actress and a beautiful singer. She's my complete idol. I give this 5 stars.

A Walk to Remember is a wonderful, thought provoking movie made only better by the beautiful soundtrack that accompanies it. The songs have a way of floating in the air throughout the day after the first time they are played. Definately recommended. Watch the movie, read the book, and buy the music cd. You won't regret it.
