CHAPTER 1
Rosie and Julia are sisters. Rosie is two years older then Julia. Rosie has brown hair and brown eyes and looks a lot like their grandmother. Rosie likes to cook and sew new clothes for her dolls. Julia is blonde and green eyed and looks like her father.
Julia is a Tom boy and is fearless. When boys throw rocks at her she throws them right back at the boys. Julia reacts without thinking while Rosie takes her time to make the right choice.
Rosie and her little sister, Julia, are walking to the Mr. Alfonso's general store. Their grandmother has given them each money to buy themselves some sweets because they have been good while mommy is away with their baby brother. Their father is off fighting for the king.
They have earned this little adventure because they have kept their room clean. Rosie had to remind Julia to pick up her toys but otherwise they have been very good. On their way to the store they hear a loud crack of thunder
Julia stops and is staring up in the sky. Rosie looks up and sees a lighting dragon. Rosie lets out a little squeak of fear upon seeing her sister pick up a rock. Rosie knows her sister is about to throw the rock at the dragon. Rosie tries to stop her sister but cannot reach her in time.
The rock flies through the air towards the dragon. It lands harmlessly on the ground after only traveling about twenty feet.
The girls see a warrior battling the dragon. The warrior moves quickly away from each of the dragons mighty attacks. The brave warrior is narrowly dodging the attacks
"The warrior has no shield." Whispers Rosie. "Father always says that trying to fight a dragon without your shield is not much of a fight."
"But the warrior is too fast for the dragon." Says Julia in awe.
"That will not last forever." an idea pops into Rosie's head. "We should go get mother's shield from the blacksmith." Julia nods in agreement. The girls take off to the blacksmith's shop.
The girls arrive at the shop and as Rosie is getting the money out Julia explains why they need their mother's shield. The blacksmith laughs at their wild imagination about dragons. He gives them the shield with a big smile on his face. Just a few moments after the girls leave the shop he hears the loud boom of thunder. The smith's curiosity has been raised and walks out of his very loud shop. He stares at the sky in horror. He yells in surprise at seeing the mighty beast.
The girls take turns holding the shield while they are running. They reach the spot were the battle is taking place. The girls notice that the warrior is not moving as fast as before. Bits and pieces of armor clutter the ground.
"We have to get the shield over there right away." Rosie says with a little bit of fear in her voice.
"Should we just rush right up to the warrior. We are little and I don't think the dragon will notice us." Julia excitedly proclaims. The look on Rosie's face is absolute horror.
"We should split up. You run and get the dragon's attention while I sneak up and hand the shield to the warrior. No arguments either because I am stronger than you and you are faster then me."
Julia tried to find fault in her older sister's logic but can not with the courageous plan decided they both hug each other and set off to do their part.
