A Walking Shadow: A Sequel to Yesterday's Shadowsby Jo-Anne Southern
In AD 61, after the bloodiest battle Britain ever experienced, the tribes were still revolting against the oppression of the Roman invaders. Queen Boudicca, their leader, whom the people presumed dead, regains consciousness to find herself a prisoner of the Roman invaders. She faces years of captivity in a dark dungeon, but her unusual physical and mental strength, and her hatred of the Romans, keeps her alive.
From the decadent luxury of Nero's Rome to the deprivation of Boudicca's cave prison, the story moves between disparate worlds. Queen Cartimandua, her exiled sister, living at Nero's pleasure in Rome, aches to return to her home in Britain, while Boudicca longs to walk free again. Boudicca survives her incarceration but the new governor, Trebelllius, sends her to train as a gladiatrix. While training she meets Cador, also a captive gladiator, and falls in love with him.
Trebellius, struck by her regal stature and beauty, attempts to seduce her, but she rejects him. He vows his revenge on her and Cador at the spectacular and bloody opening games for his new amphitheatre in London.
