Amazing short story with all kinds of fairy tales thrown in!

The heroine, Giselle Swenov, is elderly, crippled, and on her last leg. But she isn't really an old woman. Inside, she's a beautiful opera star whose been robbed of her looks and her voice by an evil enchantress.
The only person Giselle can turn to for help is her former fiancé, Lucian Ivanu. But Lucian has moved on - and that's when things get even more complicated. I loved Ms. Myles's style of writing and how the pages flew by. It has a great ending and charming characters. I'd definitely recommend this one!!

    Review:

A great twist on a classic fairytale!

In this third story of the Cursed Princes, we find Giselle Swenov an opera star who is set to marry Lucian Ivanu, on her wedding day Ileana Za pa da curses Giselle.  Giselle is turned into a haggard old woman, who is also mute.  Chased away Giselle goes into the service of Ileana, who we met in the previous book in the series.  Now, years later, Giselle is out to find Lucian; who is a warlock, so hopefully he can break the spell and they can find the love that was between them.

I really enjoy Ms. Myles writing and I like that though you think this is a variation of Swan Lake, there are so many hints of other fairy tales thrown in to make a very interesting read.  I think Giselle is strong and smart, she is changed into an old hag for goodness sake and she still fights and and waits for the chance to right was done to her.  Now, for Lucian, I wanted to smack him a little when says he cannot help Giselle and announces right in front of her that he is marrying someone else.  He does smarten up and figure out what he really needs and wants.  Elisabeth is a great obstacle for Giselle and Lucian, not just because of his commitment to her, but also, her sneaky scheming ways.

A great short read, especially if you like retold/re-imagined fairy tales.

A Warlock's Dance, Marina Myles Review from Jeannie Zelos Book

    A Warlock's Dance, Marina Myles
Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
I was so hooked by the description I missed that this was a short story/novella. My own fault as its quite clearly labelled a novella. Its only about 40 pages or so, and I don't usually read anything that short. Still, it proved a fun read reminding me of the fairy tales I so loved as a child. Poor Giselle, transformed like that on her wedding day. When she finally broke free of her captor and found Lucian again it was to see he was about to be engaged....and I felt so much for her, especially after he realised who she was and still went ahead with his engagement. He just didn't seem to have an idea or conscience about how it would hurt her, and wasn't the same man she'd left. Times running out fast for Giselle though and she needed his help before it was too late. Could the get the ring, reverse the spell and could he find the man he was inside the one he'd become?
There's some unexpected enemies and allies in this little tale, and it was a fun read and may appeal more to those who like shorts. For me its long books, and shorts just over too quickly as I’m such a quick reader. As ever- horses for courses and all that and this is well written and entertaining.
Stars: three – a good story, just over too quick for me.
