A Warm December -- Re-issued in October 2011 -- Jacqueline Diamond -- Dave Anders was at the local veterinarian clinic to pick up his dog, and he mistakes Veterinarian Meredith "Merrie" McGregor as one of the clinic employees. Merrie was just about to release his dog, when a monkey escapes his cage and begins to destroy the office. With Dave's help the monkey is soon captured. Dave was quite taken by the vet, and asks Merrie to go out with him; she refuses, because her niece Steffie is coming to stay with Merrie and Grandma Netta for Christmas. -- Merrie's sister Lisabeth had adopted five-year-old Steffie. Lisabeth was gone, because she had been invited to Europe for the holidays. Lisabeth's friend from New York was going to drop Steffie off at the airport in Nashville on her way to Florida, where Merrie would pick Steffie up. When Merrie attends a Christmas party, she sees a Santa that puts the children at ease. She decides that she has to hire this Santa for Christmas Eve to make it special for Steffie. Merrie is surprised when she finds out that the Santa Claus she has chosen is Dave Anders. Merrie finds out that Lisabeth was thinking of getting married to an older man with grown children. Lisabeth thought that Steffie would be better off going to a boarding school. Merrie couldn't let that happen to the very special little girl. Merrie offers to keep Steffie with her and she could go to school here. When Lisabeth tells Merrie that she didn't think so because of Merrie's job, Merrie tells her that she is engaged to Dave Anders. What will Dave say when he hears he's engaged? -- Jacqueline Diamond takes a special time of year and makes it even more special for young Steffie. This story made me turn the pages quickly to see how the attraction between Dave and Merrie would play out. Will Merrie and Dave see that their futures could possibly be in front of them? Get yourself a hot drink, settle back in your favorite chair, and enjoy this story as much as I did.
