Overview

Wealthy executive Dave Anders may not be veterinarian Merrie McGregor’s type, but she’ll agree to a fake engagement if that’s what it takes to give her young niece a home.

When Dave goes to the vet to pick up his dog, he ends up chasing a monkey and kissing the vet herself. Dr. Merrie McGregor’s drawn to this teasing, sexy man but she never expects to see him again—until he shows up as Santa Claus on her doorstep on Christmas Eve with gifts for Merrie’s visiting niece Steffie.

Learning that her selfish sister plans to stick her adopted daughter in boarding school, Merrie will go to any lengths to get Steffie entrusted to her, even faking an engagement with Dave. The problem is that Dave seems to be taking the whole engagement business a little too seriously. Can a warm December really last the whole year round?

Originally written under the pseudonym Jacqueline Topaz, A Warm December has been lightly updated by the author to maintain its original freshness and humor.

Editorial Reviews

Writers Unlimited - Helen Slifer
I'm a sucker for Jacqueline Diamond's romances. They always contain strong families and the complication of having an innocent child in the mix. Because they're shorter in length, it's easy to read them in one sitting and you always get emotionally wrapped up in the characters' lives.

Jacqueline Diamond's romances contain families, not just the couples but the whole family falling in love. That's because her books are home and community with a "you'll meet no strangers here" attitude.

This is a great story for this special time of year!

A Warm December -- Re-issued in October 2011 -- Jacqueline Diamond -- Dave Anders was at the local veterinarian clinic to pick up his dog, and he mistakes Veterinarian Meredith "Merrie" McGregor as one of the clinic employees. Merrie was just about to release his dog, when a monkey escapes his cage and begins to destroy the office. With Dave's help the monkey is soon captured. Dave was quite taken by the vet, and asks Merrie to go out with him; she refuses, because her niece Steffie is coming to stay with Merrie and Grandma Netta for Christmas. -- Merrie's sister Lisabeth had adopted five-year-old Steffie. Lisabeth was gone, because she had been invited to Europe for the holidays. Lisabeth's friend from New York was going to drop Steffie off at the airport in Nashville on her way to Florida, where Merrie would pick Steffie up. When Merrie attends a Christmas party, she sees a Santa that puts the children at ease. She decides that she has to hire this Santa for Christmas Eve to make it special for Steffie. Merrie is surprised when she finds out that the Santa Claus she has chosen is Dave Anders. Merrie finds out that Lisabeth was thinking of getting married to an older man with grown children. Lisabeth thought that Steffie would be better off going to a boarding school. Merrie couldn't let that happen to the very special little girl. Merrie offers to keep Steffie with her and she could go to school here. When Lisabeth tells Merrie that she didn't think so because of Merrie's job, Merrie tells her that she is engaged to Dave Anders. What will Dave say when he hears he's engaged? -- Jacqueline Diamond takes a special time of year and makes it even more special for young Steffie. This story made me turn the pages quickly to see how the attraction between Dave and Merrie would play out. Will Merrie and Dave see that their futures could possibly be in front of them? Get yourself a hot drink, settle back in your favorite chair, and enjoy this story as much as I did.
