Overview

Anyone worried that living in a small town could be boring certainly hasn't lived in Henry Adams, Kansas. From the wealthy divorcée who saved this historic town founded by freed slaves to the romantic entanglements that have set tongues wagging and hearts fluttering (and everything in between), there's plenty to keep the lovably eccentric townsfolk busy.

Preston Miles is happy living with his foster parents, but an e-mail from his maternal grandmother is about to change all that. . . . Riley Curry, the former town mayor, is convinced his pet hog, Cletus, acted in self-defense when he sat on—and killed—a man. Now Riley just has to prove it in a court of law. . . . And as for Rocky, she has already had a lifetime of hurt. Will she risk opening her heart—and her life—to Jack?

Warm, funny, poignant, and unforgettable, Beverly Jenkins's latest excursion to Henry Adams is a true delight—a welcome return to a place that always feels like home.

    A must read!!

Fans of Beverly Jenkins and her Blessing Series will be completely blown away with A WISH AND A PRAYER, the latest book in the series. The book draws you in from start to finish and leaves you wanting to read more. The reader cannot help but to fall in love with some of these new characters, and feel a loyalty to those previously introduced. The reader will feel so emotionally tied to these characters that the reader will laugh when they laugh, and cry when they cry, not to mention feel awe-struck by the plot.

WARNING: Do not purchase this book, if you have other things to do. Lol This was in no way a typical storyline. Many unexpected and unpredictable occurences made this book a constant read. Once you start reading, you will NOT be able to put this book down. ;-).

    Multiple story lines

Preston is living in a small town that was purchased on Ebay and is being revitalized. His foster parents are great (at least his mom is) and he is enjoying his life. But an email from his maternal grandmother sets his world upside down.

I haven't read the previous books and I think this set the tone for my reading experience. There are quite a few characters and I just couldn't keep track of them all. I'm not sure if it was because I was reading a ARC or not, but there was no distinction between the stories. I would be reading along about Preston and suddenly realize that we were now discussing the mayor (a lady). It was very confusing. The stories were, for the most part, entertaining, but a bit too cheesy for me. Everything seems to work out too perfectly. The characters were "cute", but not gripping.
If you enjoy the types of books that have multiple story lines running through it than this book would be good. Just make sure you start at the beginning of the series. These books are definitely not stand alone books.

I received this book free of charge from Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review.

Don't walk, run to the book store (or down load to your e-reader) the latest installment of the Blessings Series from Beverly Jenkins. Visit the residents of Henry Adams, Kansas again as Ms. Jenkins brings some joy to young Preston Mays. The story kept me going until the last page. Almost had to call in sick so I could finish the book. As always a great job!!
