Overview

A Unique, Relational Way for Women to Read the Bible in a Year

Many women feel overwhelmed at the thought of reading the Bible in a year. Diane Stortz found that it is not only possible but life-changing. Her journey from initial reluctance to excitement about reading the Bible will inspire readers to try it for themselves.

Part of a women's group that read through the Bible each year for ten years, the author discovered the value of reading the Bible to get to know God better rather than viewing it only as a book to study. This guide will give women tools to read and discuss the Bible together, drawing them closer to God and each other.

Includes a week-by-week reading plan, discussion guide, lists of what to look for, and motivational quotes.

Reading and understanding the Bible is an achievable goal for everyone. In her new book, Diane Stortz gives wonderful tips and tools for "a life-changing journey into the heart of God. Reading the Bible doesn't take a lot of time each day, but to get to the meat of the message, some thoughtful study is needed. This book is broken into 52 weekly lessons around topics like: "Chosen by God," and "Back to Egypt," with Bible passages to read, a thought to meditate on, and some "Checkpoints."  At the end of the book are timelines, resources, references, and a through the year guide to reading the Bible. Following her plan, you can read through the Bible and gain knowledge and power from that reading. This book looks at reading the Bible in a year through a new lens for me. The weekly chapters give so much to think about and meditate on. It hits topics differently from daily devotionals and "Through the Bible in a Year" programs. They all work, so I encourage you to find the one that works best for you. Take your personal Bible reading and study to that next level. I received my free review copy from Bethany House in exchange for an honest review.

A WOMAN’S GUIDE TO READING THE BIBLE IN A YEAR: A LIFE-CHANGING JOURNEY INTO THE HEART OF GOD by Diane Stortz is an excellent Bible Study Guide. With a “discussion guide, lists of what to look for, motivational guotes, and a week-by-week reading plan”. A very delightful guide to reading the Bible. With scriptures to read and checkpoints for those scriptures and a timeline of both the Old and New Testaments. I have started using this as a guide myself and have found it more than helpful, it is also a useful tool. Highly recommended. Received for an honest review from the publisher. A book geared especially toward women and their needs for social iteractions and friendships, this guide begins with a little introduction and encouragement. Built around the idea that a group of women should seek to accomplish this task of reading through the Bible in a year together, stories are shared that give the reader ideas of success and support. Set apart into weeks, each week begins with a little background about the verses that will be read for the week. Following that, there is a list of books, chapters and verses to be read, one for each day. Checkpoints are listed for the reader to have some points to look for in their reading to keep things centered. A journal portion of the page is left for the reader to answer questions about what they have read, allowing the reader to jot down verses or passages to remember, something that was learned or gained, and any questions. This page then proves helpful for the weekly group meetings for discussion. While inteneded for group use, this book is equally helpful for reading on ones own as well. Simple and easy to follow, the guide breaks the Bible down into manageable portions that offer success. I enjoyed the intro for each week, as it guides the reading rather than just offering a list of verses to read. A book that will surely stay in my collection and one that I am recommending to all of my female friends. A good place to condsider starting a small group. I was provided a free copy of this book for review through Waterbrook Multnomah's Blogging for Books program. I was in no way compensated for this review nor was I required to write a positive review.

As a Bible study leader, I leapt to review Diane Stortz's new book. The guide is attractively laid out into 52 undated sessions, so it can be started any time in the calendar year. Each week's session includes a page of introductory material, a realistic reading plan (3-6 chapters a day, alternating between Old and New Testaments), and a handful of reflective questions. I found the questions helpful but general. For a group that loves to talk, the questions would suffice, but a more reticent group would need more. I also would have liked to see a few questions tailored to each week's reading. Overall, this guide is extremely useful and attractive. For a large formal Bible study group, supplementary questions would be needed, but this guide would be wonderful for an informal small group (especially a chatty group), for friends to work through together, or for individual study. It's so beneficial to read through the entire Bible, and I'm thankful Diane Stortz wrote this book.
