Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - RevaBeth Russell
This book delivers gore as well as accurate information. It is almost like sneaking spinach into the ice cream. If you are a Zombie wannabe, here is information that you will need. Illustrations of cell types also list how the zombie rates it; for example, liver cells are "tangy." Parts of the skeleton are labeled as "snacks" or "big meal." The cerebrum is crossed out to read "cerebyum." There is a great deal of correct information about bones, brains, muscles, marrow, speech, senses, and more. Pronunciation follows science words such as chyme to (kine) or foramen magnum (fuh-RAY-mun MAG-num). Pictures of disgusting bugs such as flies, cockroaches, and centipedes are scattered throughout and over other pictures. The young reader will learn that the hands contain more than a quarter of all the bones in the body and that some people have a different number of the tiny sesamoid bones in their hands. Identical twins have identical DNA, but different finger prints. Your fingertips have about 3,000 touch sensing cells. The reader will learn from the zombie's point of view that teeth are not worth taking out for food, but as a zombie you need to "take care of your own incisors and canines." This is a book with an incredible amount of information, divided into enjoyable, readable tidbits. It never talks down to the reader. For teachers this is a great book to have on your shelf to offer students who have some extra time after completing an assignment. Reviewer: RevaBeth Russell

    A must!

As a sixth grade teacher I am always looking for high interest non-fiction for my classroom. It is always a bonus if it is interesting to the boys! The waitlist on this one is so long I am going to have to buy another copy. They love that they are learning about the human body and that the pictures are cool.
