When Bill Pendleton, the proprietor of an import-export business, receives a letter from his late grandfather detailing twelve large diamonds he discovered during the company's early stages, it sets Bill on a quest to find the abandoned diamonds.
The only problem is that 'Grandpa' reveals he mailed the diamonds to an old friend, who hid them in a prop of a black bird made for a movie.
After the death of Grandpa's friend, he abandoned the search.
Driven by a desire for adventure and discovery, Bill embarks on a quest to locate the missing gems. The journey turns out to be fraught with murder mysteries, espionage, sex, and that familiar human trait—plain old greed.
