This is the present tense version that was written before the past tense was accepted for publication

Muriel Antwater is a witch, no ordinary witch. She is the guardian for the gateway to Hopplescotch Realm. She lives a quiet, orderly life in Beechhorn Cove. She teaches the local children at the schoolhouse during the week, life has been quiet for the last ten years since Agnes Fairwether, another powerful witch was banished. Agnes had sought power and wanted to rule in this world and the Realms. A battle had taken place with Muriel being the winner. There are seven Realms in our story, Hopplescotch, Bungleburb, Zimbler, Rumpleton, Hogglenoggle and Griggle. The seventh Realm is only referred to as the seventh Realm, it is pure evil, and no one goes there except Agnes and the Whozells, whom she created.
Our story starts with a letter to Muriel saying that Abby, (a Hopplescotch) who is the key to the gate, is being sent to her for safekeeping. Agnes is back and wants to overthrow the Realms. Mozac, a moon rat comes to Muriel’s aid. Mozac is suspicious about the motive for Abby’s arrival. Why send the key to the gate? They set a distraction for Captain Wynard, Muriel’s neighbour, who has been snooping around in case he gets in the way when Abby arrives. The Captain reveals that he is Alfred, Warlock of Cobbersham (Abby’s usual keeper) when he confronts Mozac. Alfred has mind jumped into the Captain, he warns Mozac that all may not be, as it seems in the cove. As Muriel has never meet Abby, Alfred has sent her twin in her place as a decoy. She cannot open the gate.
Abby attends school she makes friends with Peter, Amber, Henry and Jinx. Muriel is showing signs of personality changes, a glimpse of someone else perhaps. The children explore the caverns below the cliffs and discover two men delivering an object in Lantern Cavern....

Meet the Author

Julie was born and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she is now residing again after living on the rugged West Coast of the South Island for nine years. She has worked and served overseas with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including a three- year posting to Bangkok, Thailand. After completing a Diploma for Professional Writer of Children’s Stories, she wrote her popular first fantasy novel for children, Abby and the Hopplescotch Realm. This was written as the first in her series of stories about the adventures of a group of children and other characters in different realms. Julie's series has grown to 4 books in total now with the 5th being penned, it is extremely popular, read her reviews on her website and enjoy her books. Julie also holds Diplomas in Diamonds and Gems. Julie lives with her two daughters and her dogs, Bailey, the big lovable Rotty. And the newest addition to the family is Arthur, our English Mastiff. Julie was Chairperson of the New Zealand Society of Authors for Canterbury in 2012. Contracts have expired with her publisher so she has been releasing books digitally and left over printed stocks are available through her New Zealand Distributor or online shops till stocks expire for her first and second editions. Late 2011, she released print on demand paperback copies on Amazon with new covers, along with the long awaited for 4th book. What have they been up to this time? The series is all written in past tense, Abby was 5th on our best seller list when it was first published in 2003. Julie found the original manuscript of Abby in her computer that was typed in present tense before the publisher wanted it changed into past tense for publication, She hopes you enjoy it! It's not as long or as detailed as the final one but still a rollicky read. If you liked reading Harry Potter you will love this series and now with the help of digital publishing it is easy to bring the series to a world wide audience. Most adults love her books too, Magical can even teach some adults how to keep a step ahead of teenagers and stop them playing the 'game'. She would love you to leave her a review, either here or on Amazon and hit the like button if you want to. Her books were written for kids and it is about getting them to read. Julie started Ooky Spooky publications and she has been publishing other Authors' work for them. Julie is a Reiki Master and a Bodytalker. She's explored alternative medicine after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when she was 32 and has been working on a series of adult books in the body, mind and spirit genre. The first one is out, A Witch's Chronicles, part one by Anne Dover. Julie keeps fit and remains in good health. Julie has been following her dreams whilst she could, working hard to leave her children a legacy that one never gives up, even when one doesn't know what the future holds. A note from the Author, my books are about teaching kids not to dabble with the spirit world, how to handle text bullying. How to handle a grandparent with Alzheimers and even parents who are drunks. If you want a rollicky read - read on, the series got better the more books I wrote, as my publisher said about Magical, it' s very dark. My reply was Harry Potter got dark too. Perhaps adults should read number 3 and 4 first before letting the kids read them. I apologise we had 5 years of earthquakes and loads of drama attached to that...I didn't realise that Time bandits went up with the wrong file for awhile. I let the book go free to compensate for that for a few months, the book now has the right file to it. Books are back on smashwords!!!!!! Enjoy!!!!

This was very cute and entertaining. As an adult, I noticed some inconsistencies and maybe a few loose ends. For a younger reader; however, this likely would not be noticed. (And if it is...what good lesson!).
