Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Rachel Miller
Miami is a very busy city with a lot of activity. Here, the author uses photographs from the city as the basis for an alphabet book. Robin Segal has chosen practical pictures for each letter. Some of the pictures are objects that every city has, while others show features that are unique to Miami. Next to each photograph, the relevant word is clearly written in an easy-to-read font. In addition, the words are shown in Spanish. The pictures are clear and highly detailed. Each page is very colorful, which will encourage the reader to pick up the book more than once. Because the alphabet letters have different numbers of pictures associated with them, readers will learn that some letters are more popular at the beginnings of words than are other letters. This is an excellent book to encourage reading and phonics. It would be an outstanding asset to a social studies curriculum as well as a reading program. This is a part of the "All About Cities" series. Reviewer: Rachel Miller

    I Also Recommend:

The book is perfect for English or Spanish learners who learn new words with familiar places and things. The book also serves good to wide vocabulary of preschoolers. Children learn and remember best when studying is associated to their everyday life

The book is excellent for studying purposes. It provides good knowledge about Miami and is educative and entertaining at the same time. The book can really help children who are just learning English or Spanish and the book can be used also with toddlers as a book to look and see familiar places and things. I bought the book for my preschoolers´of 3 years of age and they just loved it. It was easy to teach new vocabulary both in English and in Spanish when children could see familiar places and things at the same time. Learning process was fun and children really associated new words with their everyday life. Pictures are colorful, bright and most of them are developmentally age appropriate for children ages 3 to kindergarten. Some pictures though I would change and in some letters I would add some words and pictures. I liked the idea that pictures and words were chosen from all kinds of things and areas, not just from some specific area. I recommend.
