Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Donald R. Frey, MD (Creighton University Medical Center)
Description: This CD-ROM contains all of the graphs and illustrations found in the book version of ABCs of Breast Diseases (BMJ Publishing Group, 2000). Powerpoint is required of the user in order for the CD to function.
Purpose: The CD-ROM is intended to provide better utilization of the numerous illustrations in the ABC book, and to provide these items in a format that is more readily viewable for educational purposes. The pictures are of excellent quality and the illustrations well done.
Audience: Both the book and the CD-ROM are intended for all medical professionals who wish to learn more about breast disease. Learners studying for board-style exams will find the illustrations useful, in that they appear in a style often found on board tests. The authors are all noted authorities on breast disease.
Features: The illustrations and tables follow the format for the book and the accompanying references and gives information regarding each picture. Numerous aspects of breast disease, also well covered in the book, are illustrated in the CD-ROM. The quality of the illustrations is excellent and they will lend themselves well to printing, should the learner wish to print them. However, more text on the CD-ROM itself would be helpful in case the user loses the accompanying pamphlet, or not have the book handy.
Assessment: This CD-ROM contains excellent print quality illustrations of the material found in a very well done basic book on breast disease. Although the CD-ROM is very helpful, it really does not stand on its own, but will be quite useful to anyone using the accompanying book.
