Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Dieter Gebauer, BDSc (University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry)
Description: This concise, brief overview of common pathologies that occur in the oral cavity provides good illustrations of the typical pathologies.
Purpose: The purpose of the book, according to the author, is to provide a variety of health professionals with overviews of etiology, clinical features, diagnosis, and management of oral lesions. This is a worthy objective, but the book is too short and concise to accomplish them effectively.
Audience: In my opinion, this is an introductory book best suited for support staff of dental offices or undergraduate human biology majors. The author directs it to general practitioners, dermatologists, internists, pediatricians, and ENTs. The author is a credible authority in the subject matter.
Features: This book covers most classifications of oral pathology/health/lesions. It also covers esthetics and occlusion in relation to orthodontics. It is a good, broad overview of oral pathology with excellent illustrations and pictures, but it is possibly too concise.
Assessment: This is a moderately useful book for those beginning to look at oral pathology. It is a little oversimplified for the advanced student or practitioner, as other texts are more detailed.
