Doody's Review ServiceReviewer: Elizabeth K Dee, BA, MD (Denver Health Medical Center)
Description: The second edition of Dr. Semelka's book (first edition, 2002) is an excellent general body imaging reference book whose strength lies in the large number of MR images provided and the comprehensive nature of the contents.
Purpose: Dr. Semelka emphasizes in his preface the need for consistent display of disease processes and good imaging quality while incorporating the latest technical innovations.
Audience: The book is primarily a reference for body imaging or general radiologists and radiology residents.
Features: The book is comprehensive and covers all of the major topics in body MRI and each organ system is discussed in a separate chapter. Chapters two and nine discuss the liver and kidneys and are particularly useful for daily practice as are the study protocols provided in chapter one. Unfortunately, the chest chapter is quite brief and there is no discussion of cardiac MR.
Assessment: This is, and will continue to be, my primary text for body MRI in the reading room and the inclusion of more and better quality images than the previous edition is wonderful.
