Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
"Practicing radiologists will enjoy the richly illustrated text and discussions of the most common applications in abdominal and pelvic MR imaging.  There are few books available that provide a comparable overview at a similar cost." (Radiology, March 2004)

"...an excellent text that includes a broad range of pathological disorders related to the abdomen and pelvis and their imaging characteristics on MRI..." (Abdominal Imaging, September/October 2002)

"...a comprehensive text...valuable addition to the literature...most useful as a reference, but the individual chapters also serve as excellent reviews..." (American Journal of Roentgenology, Vol. 179, No. 4, October 2002)

"...an excellent text that includes a broad range of pathological disorders related to the abdomen and pelvis and their imaging characteristics on MRI..." (Abdominal Imaging)

"...Overall this is an excellent MRI reference work.... I have no doubts this will be a valuable addition to the reporting room reference collection." (NMR in Biomedicine)

Doody's Review Service
Reviewer: Kristin A. Freestone, MD (University of Colorado Health Sciences Center)
Description: This is a lavishly illustrated textbook detailing the MR imaging of diseases in the abdomen and pelvis.
Purpose: The author provides both text and atlas, comprehensively describing the disorders of the abdomen and pelvis, imaged by MR. The book is a necessary addition to the subspecialty of body imaging since it has become difficult to find a complete text with state-of-the-art images.
Audience: The book is intended for radiology residents, fellows, body imagers, or anyone with an interest in MR imaging of the viscera in the abdomen and pelvis. Relevant medicine and surgical subspecialties may also find this book useful, especially since it contains extensive images supporting the text.
Features: Chapter coverage includes all abdominal viscera as well as the peritoneal cavity, retroperitoneum, large vessels (with MRA), and male and female pelvis. Special sections on MR in pregnancy, hepatic transplantation, stomach, and small and large bowel are relatively new areas of MR interest. Detailed imaging protocols are given and are geared for a Siemens system. Of particular note are specific protocols for noncooperative and sedated patients.
Assessment: This is a welcome and necessary addition to the body imaging subspecialty. Tremendous advances in fast imaging sequences have been made in MR recently and the numerous, high quality images greatly enhance the concise, detailed, and up-to-date text. An extensive number of images are taken from MRI of the Abdomen and Pelvis: A Text-Atlas, by the same author (John Wiley & Sons, 1997). The author has met his goal of providing a clear and balanced text and atlas, comprehensively detailing abdomen and pelvis disorders.
From The Critics
This combination textbook and b&w atlas describes disorders of the abdomen and pelvis imaged by MRI, with a focus upon the understanding of the morphological characteristics and pathologic criteria needed to assess and diagnose disease. Each of the 15 contributions by medical specialists covers a specific organ or area of the body. Since particular imaging sequences become outmoded or change with time, clinical-pathologic correlation is stressed and incorporated into the discussion of many conditions. Also emphasized is the importance of achieving reproducible, consistently sound image quality. Edited by Semelka (radiology, U. of North Carolina). Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
