Overview

Discover the role historic Hudson, Ohio played in the fight against slavery. A famous stop on the Underground Railroad and home to celebrated abolitionist John Brown, Hudson bore witness to many of the sentiments that caused the Civil War and divided a nation. Not everyone in the city and the surrounding Western Reserve region held abolitionist opinions, however—several proponents of slavery (including a local judge) were part of the community, as well, and that made Hudson a microcosm of the tumultuous events that took place across the U.S. at the time.
