A concluding chapter addresses the issue of biblical support for choice. Related issues of violence toward women receive moving but restrained attention. An important presentation of facts and arguments that have often been silenced; essential for all libraries."

Editorial Reviews

Francis Kissling
What an important and long overdue book! It opens a wide window on the values of women of faith who have faced hard choices about abortion and explodes myths about the beliefs and behavior of Christian women especially in the evangelical tradition, treating the subject with sensitivity while avoiding extremes--making a compelling case for pro-choice Christianity.
Letha Dawson Scanzoni
This ground-breaking book dares to confront the reality of abortion as a morally responsible choice made by countless Christian women, including many from the most conservative traditions. By breaking the silence, it challenges churches not to abandon women when they most need to hear God's message of tender love.
Mark Olson
Frank and compelling, this book focuses the abortion discussion where it belongs: on the lives of real women who tell of their struggles--thereby illustrating the incredible grace of a God who never leaves us alone.
Pamela J. Maraldo
Here are women of great faith whose passionate experiences form profoundly moving testaments to the truth that devoutly Christian women have abortions for all kinds of reasons. Despite the censure of their faith communities, these women have decided that God supports them in their moral choices--if only their religious leaders could do as much.
Virginia Ramsey Mollenkott
The stories are moving; the discussion of biblical principles undergirding choice direct and profound. In the midst of a debate characterized by too much "sound and fury," we have voices of honest and restrained truthfulness that quietly demonstrate the absolute necessity of individual moral agency.

    Excellent book

This is an excellent book for both pro-choice and pro-life and for Christians and non-Christians. It is really helpful to explain the plight of Christian women in particular who have chosen to have an abortion. These stories are very thought provoking and should make all Christians think about practicing forgiveness and not labeling these women "murderers". There are so many women sitting in church pews who are afraid to talk about their abortion for fear of the hateful labels. Sin is sin and we should treat abortion as one of many. These women should be made to feel welcome and forgiven, not chastised and hated! Although I am a Christian and consider myself pro-life, I still believe its the choice of a woman and its between her and her GOD!

What? It is ok for a man to beat his wife? As long as it's in his own home? And that is between him and his spiritual leader? Your statement made no sense and wrong on so many levels. I would rant more, but then I would not be able to stop.

    Christian and Pro Choice

Its all about privacy. What a woman or a person chooses to do in private should be left up to them! If a man chooses to "beat" his wife in the privacy of his own home thats between him and his spiritual leader if he chooses to include them, nobody else should have a say. No one has the right to take away the freedom of CHOICE! ...... Garbage.... if you believe that... you dont know Jesus and you may be Pro Choice, but youare no Believer!
