Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Julia Beiker
This simplistic picture book takes the reader all around the world and educates them on the animals and landscapes typical of the grasslands including all continents accept Antarctica where the severe weather prohibits this habitat. The hand drawn illustrations with fascinating details quickly takes over the reading of the text, and the description plates on the bottom left side tell even more. At the end of the first part of the book, the reader discovers a more detailed description of each plate. This part is geared towards the upper end of young readers while the first part will work as either a sit down book with an adult, or a self-reader for school aged Kindergarteners and up. I find the glossary useless because the words are not bold-faced in the text, nor is there a page given to find them. Overall, the book contains a lot of accurate and interesting facts that explain life on the grasslands for any classroom or library. This book is part of the "About..." series.
