Overview

Andrew Murray served as the first president of the Young Men's Christian Fellowship (YMCA), was the author of over 240 books, and was also a man of great prayer. Through his private devotion with the Savior, he learned that laughter and fellowship were two of life's most important activities.
He often prayed, "May not a single moment of my life be spent outside the light, love, and joy of God's presence and may not a moment without the entire surrender of my self as a vessel for Him to fill full of His Spirit and His love."
Abiding in Christ was the cornerstone to Andrew Murray's life and ministry. He writes: "Abide in Jesus: your life in Him will lead you to that fellowship with God in which the only true knowledge of God is to be had. His love, His power, His infinite glory will, as you abide in Jesus, be so revealed as it hath not entered into the heart of man to conceive."

Murray is one of the most beloved Christian authors of all time

I wondered what it meant to surrender or submit to God's will. It's something you hear all the time, but no one tells you how. This book helped me to discover for myself what that meant and how I could do it. We continue to think that we can do things on our own. We think that we can improve ourselves or accomplish the transformation on our own. Until we realize that we are completely dependent on God, there is no hope for truly growing closer to Him. How freeing is it to realize that I don't have to rely on myself to accomplish my sanctification. My sanctification will be accomplished by God, if I only allow Him to do the work he wants done. By surrendering to His will and submitting wholly to Him, I allow Him to accomplish His will in my life.

For many many years I have looked for answers and suggestions that would help me to know how to get closer to God, and this book has done more to do that than any book or person than I have come across, in the most simplistic way.

I longed to know how to surrender to God for many years. Through this book I have learned the steps necessary to reach beyond my "fleshly" comfort zone and reach for the hem of God's robe. Simply a must read book.

I can't say much other than this book has helped change my relationship with God for the better. It feels almost as a key to understanding the true spirit of absolute surrender. Soak it up.

This book came as an answer to prayer. The notion of "surrender" what that means in a practical sense, i.e., day to day living, had been something I was struggling with for quite some. Andrew Murray, the founder of the YMCA, seems to convey right from the pages of this work, with clarity and direction, that it is OK to be hesitant. Approach the Lord in prayer with a genuine, faithful heart, and let Him do the rest. "For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires." (Heb 4:16 NIV) The great thing about grace is that it is a free gift - God works that grace in us - all we need to do is be willing vessels. This book has changed, challenged, and strengthened my faith, and I've begun to see how God's grace works in my life in a whole new light. This book is clearly written to an already believing audience. It does not get deep into theological tenets, but lays out the message clearly and plainly. All you have to do is go to the Lord in prayer and let him begin to transform your heart. I highly recommend this book, and am excited to read more of Andrew Murray's other works. Glory be to God!
