Abstract Fusion 3

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Andy Kellman
For a third time, Brett Dancer's New York-based Track Mode label rolls out a valuable selection of tracks on compact disc in conjunction with London's Music Is. As it remains a vinyl-based medium, the deep house productions released on small U.S. labels rarely become available on disc to those who love the music but rely on DJs to stay on top of the release schedule for them. As it remains a vinyl-based medium, the deep house productions released on small U.S. labels rarely become available on disc to those who love the music but rely on DJs to stay on top of the release schedule for them. Quite admirably, Track Mode breaks the mold a bit and puts together another solid summation of releases from the past couple years. Abstract Fusion 3 features bold, tranquil fare in the form of Larry Heard's "We Come in Peace," Glenn Underground's "Smile," Alton Miller's "Conversation," and Frankie Valentine's "Dub o Dub Rub 96," and then it takes a turn to darker shadings for Rick Wade's "Black Acid," DJ Heart's "Gonna Do," and Theo Parrish's "Root Beer Float." Despite covering the output of only one label, the Abstract Fusion series always features some of the best talent from the current deep house scene, pairing output from legendary veterans with gifted newcomers who bring their knowledge of the past into play. Vinyl hounds will tell you that the best of Track Mode remains on 12," but there's no denying that the label offers plenty to love in these CD anthologies.
