Anzi nell'unica certezza che la nostra volontà rischia di non venire rispettata. A meno che non combaci con quella di chi ha prodotto la legge sul fine vita, che incombe sulle nostre teste come una spada di Damocle dopo essere stata approvata alla Camera. Se i legislatori avessero guardato un po' più in là dell'opportunismo politico e si fossero messi a considerare la realtà dei fatti, si sarebbero accorti che sono molti, quasi il 70% secondo il Censis, gli italiani che vogliono avere la possibilità di decidere quando interrompere le terapie. Non sono questioni di poco conto il desiderio di mantenere la dignità fino alla fine, di poter stabilire dove e come morire, quanta sofferenza sopportare, quali confini dare a ciò che chiamiamo vita, e la sicurezza che le nostre disposizioni al riguardo verranno rispettate. Sono anzi questioni che andrebbero affrontate senza strumentalizzazioni. Con la verve del polemista, il rigore dei dati, e il calore di un vero medico curante - e ricorrendo al supporto di autorevoli voci, da Umberto Veronesi a Eugenio Scalfari e Ignazio Marino - Paolo Cornaglia Ferraris disegna il quadro della situazione attuale, riepiloga le motivazioni di laici e cattolici sul fine vita, e smaschera le ipocrisie di un sistema che rendendo arduo il morire, rende difficile perfino vivere.
