All Music Guide - Stephen Thomas Erlewine
Tearing through a bunch of psychedelic and garage rock classics from the 1960s, the Ramones regain much of the fun and abandon of earlier records, making Acid Eaters easily their best record in a decade; the guest appearances of Pete Townshend "Substitute" and ex-porn star Traci Lords "Somebody to Love" help make the record a blast.

    Sixties Hits Re-Done Ramones-Style

Let me confess upfront that I am not a fan of punk rock music, in general. I am a drummer who plays mainly classic rock. But, I have found it important in my musical studies to listen to as many other drummers and styles as possible. Consequently, I bought a number of punk rock albums from the Ramones, the Sex Pistols and the Clash for evaluation purposes. And that's how I stumbled upon this gem. This is a compilation of twelve classic rock hits from the sixties re-done Ramones-style. That means the guitar distortion is cranked way up and the song tempos quickened. The results are excellent, because the songs all have such strong melodies, plus the Ramones are solid musicians. In my opinion, the Ramones are easily the best out of the three punk rock groups mentioned earlier. It is also helpful that they sing with a New York accent, and not a British one. That means you can understand the lyrics! In any case, this is a punk rock album that I can really relate to, even though my primary musical interest is classic rock. It is very fun to put this CD on and play drums along with it. In conclusion, I think this is a really great concept album, and it just happens to have one of the coolest album covers out of my whole collection!
