Acoustic Love is a decidedly mixed bag of soft rock -- actually just as often low-amperage as "acoustic" -- from across four decades. Madeleine Peyroux, Paul Weller, Wilco, Jack Johnson, Jeff Buckley, R.E.M., et al. (and just that list represents a huge stylistic range) rub shoulders with Bob Dylan, Lou Reed, Harry Chapin, Tim Buckley, et al. from a generation prior, all in state-of-the-art sound. There's no annotation to speak of on this budget-priced release, which plays more like an extended soft rock radio station set list than a cohesive compilation, but one isn't really buying this release for the information, just the untroubled listening and the melodies and lyricism on display throughout, which are, indeed, quite seductive.
