From the strikingly complex to the achingly simple, Alarm Will Sound transforms Aphex Twin's electronic buzz into the swelling thrums of violins, echoing woodwinds, banging curtain rods, and the occasional twang of a car fender. Unless you've seen them live, it's almost impossible to picture twenty classically trained musicians recreating compositions never meant to be played by human hands, using every variety of instrument. They pull it off stunningly. "Finger Bib" and "4" are sprightfully playful, "Mt. Saint Michel" jaunty and aggressive, while "Avril 14th" and "Blue Calx" tug you inwards with their slow moving grace. Musically challenging and starkly beautiful, I highly recommend this album to anyone who appreciates the outlandish. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
