All Music Guide - Jonathan Widran
In 2008, a live performance by this five member Irish vocal phenomenon -- produced by Sharon Browne and famed songwriter/composer Phil Coulter -- became an instant phenomenon on PBS, gaining viewership of five million people with over 1,200 showings across America. While audiences fell in love with Celtic Thunder's Irish charm, the pledge drive donations soared like their voices. Unique for the range of age of its Celtic members -- they were 16 to 41 when Act Two was released -- the group is backed by the Celtic Concert Orchestra and the traditional elements of Celtic lore in its shows. This mostly winsome follow-up to Celtic Thunder, which debuted at number one on the Billboard World Music Chart, starts out like any pleasant adult contemporary group project with soaring mainstream tune "Ride On" and the lovely inspirational ballads "A Bird Without Wings" and "My Boy" before they effectively embrace their ethnicity by getting (literally) jiggy with it on the infectious and percussive "Raggle Taggle Gypsy," the very traditional Irish singalong "Yesterday's Men," and of course, a graceful a cappella twist on "Danny Boy." Uniquely fusing these traditions and the rock era, they also do a hypnotic, vocal and strumming guitar take on Paul McCartney's often overlooked "Mull of Kintyre." Between these joyful reminders of the group's heritage and the energy of Celtic music, they go for the mainstream heartstrings (à la Il Divo but slightly less dramatically) on originals like the quirky, tango-flavored "Heartbreaker" and adult contemporary classics like "I Want to Know What Love Is" and the sweeping "Nights in White Satin." The handful of truly magical winks to Ireland far outstrip the attempts to do the mainstream pop thing, and the collection would be even more appealing if it went for Celtic Thunder throughout rather than take these lush but hardly unique detours. Maybe on Celtic Thunder Act Three, they'll get the lightning crackling even more.

    This is a keeper!

I first heard Celtic Thunder on television. Wow, I was hooked and bought the first CD. Not bad. Bought the second and listened to all the voices, individual as well as blended and will listen again and again. It may not traditional irish songs but the songs are comfortable. I would recommend this cd and enjoy it for what it is. Wonderful. I am surprised to find someone who did not care for it but I have found a large following at my workplace.

    Attractive Men and Beautiful Music

A previous reviewer called this CD awful and the music commonplace--not even worth listening to twice! I have to disagree! You can send me that unused CD of yours, if you really dislike it that much! *Laugh. <BR/>There is nothing commonplace about Celtic Thunder's music. All of the voices of these five singers are real and beautiful. You won't find any lip-syncing, synthesized pop stars here! Unlike Celtic Woman (which I also enjoyed, but not nearly as much as Celtic Thunder), each of these guys has their own personality which comes through in their solos. It doesn't matter that all of the songs aren't Irish. In fact, I like it that way. I absolutely love Irish music, having been born there, but it's good to have a break from the same old, overused songs that are usually included in a Celtic music album, you know? I would highly recommend this CD and the first one to anybody who likes Irish music, or simply to those who like beautiful music.

A great representation of Celtic music by such strong male voices is a pure joy to listen to.

Another great CD by 5 Celtic men - powerful, pure voices with great, intense music to back them up.

    Even better than the first

I have been looking for these songs ever since the first CD came out and I was so excited when I learned it was finally here, I think these are the best songs they had on the concert, not that the others weren't just as excellent mind you

    I Also Recommend:

    Great, great Album

Almost as good as their live concert last October in Columbus, Ohio!

Much of the material is original by the orchestra director and also a beautiful one by one of the singers. Wonderful voices in the Celtic Genre; the best album I've heard of all Celtic music, as far as I'm concerned!

    Celtic Thunder Act Two

This CD is just as good as the first one. These guys are the greatest, and their voices all work togrther. I highly recommend this CD. If you can't get to see them in concert this is the next big thing to being there. I do hope they come back to Cleveland again because I will surely go see them.

    FABULOUS!!!

We had caught Celtic Thunder a year or so ago on a pledge break for a PBS TV station and fell in love with the group immediately. The CD allows us to bring the guys' unbelievable voices with us wherever we go. Normally, I need to steal the CD back from my 9 year old daughter who listens to it non-stop everyday. We purchased the DVD of the performance as well and my 4 year old asks on a daily basis "can I watch the boys?". Fabulous performance, out of this world talent and voices, and all around great entertainment!!!

    Wonderful!

The only disappointment I had in the first cd was that it did not include<BR/>all the songs from the PBS special.Disappointed no longer! I love this group and this second cd. Everything here is top quality but the songs I keep repeating on my player are the two bonus tracks,"Castles in the air"<BR/>and "Christmas 1915" (actually it happened in 1914) Keith's performance throughout these cds is exemplary but especially in "Castles". I could listen to him sing that all day long! "Christmas" is heart touching. especially in these times.

    Terrible

I am a real fan of this genre but this album is awful. There is no originality and no performance quality that you couldn't find from a local band playing at a nearby holiday inn on any given weekend. I played this album once, all the way through, and was disappointed in every single track. This one goes in the drawer never to be listened to again.
