Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
For youngsters interested in a different type of stardom, Usborne has recently published a book entitled Acting & Theatre. Since Usborne is a British company, the text does occasionally use words with meanings that may be unfamiliar to American readers. This really is not a problem, the terms are either explained or clearly evident from the illustrations and other text. It seems like an impossible task to explain a complex subject like acting or the theater in 64 pages, but the authors have done a remarkable job. Using a three-column format with lots of illustrations including photographs of actors as well as drawings, the reader is introduced to the basics of acting, theater terminology, brief histories of European, Oriental and modern theater and lots more. For stage- struck kids, it is one of the very few books on the subject that would appeal to readers.
