More About This Textbook
Overview
This book covers the principles and practice of combining acupuncture points - expanding a practitioner's repertoire and increasing their skills - enabling them to use a balanced and appropriate choice of points in the treatment of patients. Information onthe combination of the main points of the fourteen channels is covered in the book prior to outlining specific point combinations for selected disease syndromes. Discussion of combining points according to dermatome theory and according to the energy centres of the body is also discussed, as is combining points for the mind end emotions, and for lifestyle and behaviour. No existing book covers this aspect of clinical practice in such thorough and wide-ranging detail.
The book contains black-and-white illustrations.
Editorial Reviews
From The Critics
Reviewer: Eveline Faure, MD(University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine)Description: This book is an extensive symposium of the psychosomatic aspects of disease, its origin and treatment modes. The author combines Chinese medicine with modern biomedicine.
Purpose: The intention is to guide the reader to an understanding of the whole patient, personality, and lifestyle factors. The healing process is initiated by the use of combinations of acupuncture points. This book offers an extensive number of points to choose from, alone or in combination with other modes of medicine.
Audience: The book is useful for the student and the practitioner of holistic medicine and psychology. The author has met his goal to inspire the practitioner by discussing numerous combination points. The author's personal experience and practice as doctor of acupuncture is evident.
Features: The illustrations are clear and sufficient. There are no references to works of other authors that would probably be mainly in Chinese. The table of contents is well organized, and all acupuncture points are indexed. The book is clearly outlined and comprehensible. It contains by far the largest number of points and combinations known to this reviewer.
Assessment: This book is unique in its subject, especially because it teaches the clinical aspects of acupuncture. It combines modern western knowledge with Chinese acupuncture philosophy. I would highly recommend it for students of medicine and psychology who are interested in holistic medicine. This book fills a gap in the large number of clinical textbooks.
