Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Enid Portnoy
This title is a part of the popular “Rainbow Magic” series about fairies and adventures. In this series, the fairies have powers that humans have always admired. Adele the Voice Fairy is set at a music festival on Rainspell Island. The cover of the book is pink and shows the Adele, the main character. Adele is the voice fairy and likes to sing, but she also becomes the heroine who helps solve a music problem. Her friends, Rachel and Kirsty, are looking forward to a good time at the festival and have planned to spend five days camping near it. The usual villain of the story is Jack Frost and his group of goblins, who always find a way to create mischief for everyone. The goblins and Frost have stolen the magic clefs from some of the singing groups. Many of the singing groups sound off pitch so the magic clefs must be found right away. Suddenly a new character, Gobby, appears and has a wonderful voice, and he wants everyone to make him the biggest superstar in the world. This serves as the big clue as to whether he knows more than he admits about the disappearance of the magic clefs. Wait until you read about Adele’s clever idea to involve Rachel and Kirsty to help everyone find their voices again. There are small black drawings of the characters on almost every page, plus some suggested activities on the series’ website. The story ends happily, thanks to the combined energy of the girls and Adele, the superstar voice fairy. Reviewer: Enid Portnoy; Ages 7 to 9.
