Adobe Audition is an audio program that is part of the CS6 design suite. It includes easy-to-use advanced digital editing tools as well as multi-track recording capabilities all at the same time, allowing for artists to more easily edit, manipulate, and create audio sessions.
This book, while short compared to most Adobe textbooks, is packed full of colored pictures and step-by-step tutorials to walk you through the program with the greatest of ease. It goes in depth with how to best approach the navigation of the software, as well as how to use it effectively to reduce errors and to produce high quality and professional audio tracks.
A disc accompanies this book, adding an even more in depth sense of learning as all of the files needed to complete the tutorials are included, thus reducing the time spent in finding alternative resources on the Internet. Each page is marked with a green dot and the word ‘Note,’ followed by a helpful blurb about the information on the page, a part of the tutorial, a shortcut, or other ways to approach the outcome.
“Although there are no ‘rules’ about creating a piece of music, it’s common to start with a rhythm track consisting of drums and bass, and then add other melodic elements.”
The end of each chapter features a Review Question and Answer segment perfect for both the college student or leisurely or die-hard professional. The questions covers the key points featured in each segment and are meant to ensure that the key points that are being taught are, in fact, retained. The beginning of each chapter gives the reader a lesson overview and an approximate time it should take to complete said tutorial, which was a pleasant surprise as my previous experience with most technology-based textbooks lack these simple components.
While I felt the book could have been thicker and contained even more tutorials than the sixteen included as well as more information about Adobe Audition CS6, it does cover the basics and includes the updates from previous versions, so those already familiar will feel they can skip around to be brought up to speed, and those who have never used this software will at least have a basic understanding how how this program works and be capable of performing some basic audio mixes and tracks for whatever project you have up your sleeve.
