ARE YOU READY FOR AN AMAZING NEW VERSION OF THE PHOTOSHOP BOOK THAT BREAKS ALL THE RULES?
Scott Kelby, the best-selling Photoshop author in the world today, once again takes this book to a whole new level as he uncovers the latest, most important, and most exciting new Adobe Photoshop CS4 techniques for digital photographers. This major update to his award-winning, record-breaking book does something for digital photographers that’s never been done before–it cuts through the bull and shows you exactly “how to do it.” It’s not a bunch of theory; it doesn’t challenge you to come up with your own settings or figure it out on your own. Instead, Scott shows you step-by-step the exact techniques used by today’s cutting-edge digital photographers, and best of all, he shows you flat-out exactly which settings to use, when to use them, and why. That’s why the previous editions of this book are widely used as the official study guide in photography courses at colleges and universities around the world.

LEARN HOW THE PROS DO IT
Each year Scott trains thousands of professional photographers how to use Photoshop, and almost without exception they have the same questions, the same problems, and the same challenges–and that’s exactly what he covers in this book. You’ll learn:

• The sharpening techniques the pros really use.
• The pros’ tricks for fixing the most common digital photo problems fast!
• The step-by-step setup for getting what comes out of your printer to match exactly what you see onscreen.
• A whole chapter on how to process HDR (High Dynamic Range) images.
• How to master new CS4 interface and workflow features.
• How to color correct any photo without breaking a sweat.
• How to process RAW digital camera images (plus how to take advantage of all the new Camera Raw features in CS4!).
• How to add real automation to your work.
• How to show your work like a pro!
• A host of shortcuts, workarounds, and slick “insider” tricks to send your productivity through the roof!

Plus, Scott included a special bonus chapter with his own CS4 workflow, from start to finish. If you’re a digital photographer, and you’re ready to learn the “tricks of the trade”–the same ones that today’s leading pros use to correct, edit, sharpen, retouch, and present their work–then you’re holding the book that will do just that.

    Excellent Primer for Photoshop

As a new user of Photoshop, I wanted a book that would start at the beginning and progressively and logically teach enough to make me proficient with the application. I also did not want to be put to sleep or overwhelmed. This book provides the necessary information to sequentially and logically teach Photoshop. It has generous illustrations that accompany step-by-step description. Only complaint is that the illustrations are sometimes too small to read all of the detail. Also, be aware that although the book covers Windows and MAC versions of Photoshop, all illustrations are for the MAC application.

Great Way to Start Understanding Photoship

There is probably no way to publish a book that covers all features of photoshop. It would look like the Oxford English Dictionary.

The Adobe Photoshop CS4 Book for Digital Photographers clearly explains and highlights some of the most useful functions of CS4. Author Kelby certainly knows what he likes, and he shares it with the reader. This approach provides clarity and immediate utility for all of the procedures included in the book.

Understanding CS4 could be a lifetime project, but this book provides a great start to get you up and running.

Ouch! The author dropped the best chapter.

I have been using this series since the first edition. There is fun stuff in the special effects chapter. However, the most useful chapter, the one on portrait retouching was dropped. It would have been better to trim information from most other chapters to avoid losing the basics of retouching.

This is a terrific book. I had to get it for college and then decided to keep it. It is written so you can jump around. There are so many great things to learn in this book and they are practical things that any person using photoshop should know how to do.

Photoshop CS4 made easier to use

Scott Kelby is a well known author of Photoshop books. He has made Photoshop easier to understand in this book. He breaks down all the main areas of photo editing and then gives easy steps on how to use the features. You don't have to read the whole book in order to learn how to use Photoshop. You can go to the section you need understanding in and not have to read it all to start working in the program.
It is best to use this book while you are at the computer in front of Photoshop CS4.
Photoshop can be overwhelming. You would never know all the things you can do without an instructor. The help screen in Photoshop is certainly not meant to teach you how to edit your pictures. With this book it is like having an instructor whenever you need one. Also I have found things that I wanted to do but didn't know where to begin and didn't want to ruin my pictures. The Photoshop CS4 book showed me how to easily do what looked so complicated.
