Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Adolf Hitler's life, rise to power, and death is chronicled in this very readable biography and integrated with Germany's history. The book includes details that help young people comprehend world history such as archival photographs, maps, sidebars, and a time line that sets the important dates of Hitler's life against the backdrop of world events. An added bonus to the time line for young people is that almost every event has a picture or symbol accompanying a fact. These visual clues will make this book very useful for understanding social, cultural, and world events for the first half of the twentieth century. There are full page images opening every chapter, including two of Hitler's own watercolor paintings. Although the book is well documented, most of the quotes by Hitler are from Mein Kampf, which is not identified in the text of the book. It is only identified in the source notes. There is a very short glossary, additional resources, an index, and a list of historic sites to visit. The only web site listed is a web portal, facthound.com. This biography is part of the "Signature Lives" series. 2006, Compass Point Books, Ages 10 to 14.
