Overview

This handsome, oversize (9x12") catalog contains entries and full page plates, often of both the front and back views, of 180 works, almost all of them sculpture, from many US collections. The catalog entries contain a description of the work and often include some information on the history and role of the god, goddess or other figure in Cambodian history. Three initial essays describe the art of the Khmer, ancient Khmer stone carving and bronze casting, and technical means used to determine authenticity. The works are arranged chronologically and thematically, from the 2nd century BCE - 13th century CE. Bunker is a research consultant to the Denver Art Museum's Asian art department.
