All Music Guide - Daniel Gioffre
Adrenaline is an appropriate title for this, Deftones' debut album, as all ten tracks explode with repressed energy. Unlike many of their contemporaries, Deftones are very controlled even in the midst of chaos. The musical attack is precise and well organized without sounding mechanical or soulless. Simply put, this music is the product of a good old-fashioned band, with every element of the music fitting together nicely. One of the practical ways in which this expresses itself is the way that Deftones groove, a skill that most nu-metal bands have somehow managed to lose along the way. One of the practical ways in which this expresses itself is the way that Deftones groove, a skill that most nu-metal bands have somehow managed to lose along the way. Throw Abe Cunningham's surprisingly sophisticated drumming into the mix, and you have a band that possesses a far greater degree of nuance than most others that work in the genre. If there is a weakness to Adrenaline, it is that there is a bit of sameness in Chino Moreno's whispered vocal melodies, which drags the record down a bit. On later albums, the band's progressive tendencies become more developed, but the more straight-ahead material on Adrenaline does not disappoint. A promising debut.

    Kick A$$ Album

If you're looking for something with grinding guitars, kick a** drums, and awesome vocals, then this album might be for you. Definitely preview it. Easily one of my top 10 - 15 CDs.

    unreal

It bugs me when people throw these guys under the "nu metal" tag. Nu metal is a term used by teenie boppers who listen to Linkin Park and other MTV cop outs. Adrenaline is the one of the rawest and explosive albums and changed the sound of metal for years to follow. These guys are so tight and this album should be thrown in the best of pile, cos we will be waiting a while for something to have such an impact on the metal scene. So many bands now adays sound like early deftones, and it's a shame cos it undermines the accomplishments of one of the most underated yet tightest and brilliant metal bands out there. Their later albums are a little 'uhh" but this one will always be around. Whenever I turn on the T.V and see the slop MTV crazed community is throwing at us (Korn, Limp Bizkit,Slipknot,Good Charlotte) my faith is restored by turning on this masterpiece! Chino: Keep screaming on!

    first for ''everything''

This album is jamm-packed with mad tight distortion, loopy kicking bass drops, loose hypnotic drum section beats & very passionate & intimate with heavy screaming vocals. Though the album is Deftones' first & is almost six years old now, i spin & enjoy this cd quite frequently. Though this album is not really too much like AROUND THE FUR or WHITE PONY, this was the start that set it off with fimiliar riffs & beats that can be heard on the other & recent releases. Its a mixed blend of hip hop, punk & metal all rolled up into one. Think of this as influence of KoRn, Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, Sex Pistols with a slicing dash of Led Zepplin & we have the band of our discusion. For a band that is rather underated, i highly recommend giving this album a listen all the way to the last drop. It certainly lives up to its name. For Deftones fans that know the second & third albums more, lets not forget where the sounds origionate from, going back to 1995......hold on to your imaginary seats everyone. ;-)

    10 stars

it is the best album. period. chinos vocals are primal and it is hard to find a good singer that can scream like chino. the guitars are crazy. some of them are so good but so easy its sort of like ''why didn't i think of that?'' the bass is good. and the drums are perfect. whats cool is that the CD ends on a soft note with the song ''fireal.'' buy this album, you won't be disapointed.
