Description: This is a nice, current "one-stop shop" book on small animal emergency care logically organized by organ system and general topics.
Purpose: It is dedicated specifically to the everyday practice of small animal emergency medicine.
Audience: It is designed so that every person on the small animal emergency team can have a single reference to help improve and expand the practice standard of care.
Features: The book begins with triage, then moves on to ER and ICU set up. Organ systems are next, along with general topics such as analgesia/anesthesia, infection control, and specific nursing considerations. There are many references, and where there are none currently available, the book provides information based on author experience.
Assessment: This is a complete and well-referenced compilation of relevant information small animal emergency care.

Jamie M. Burkitt Creedon, DVM, DACVECC, is Chief of the Emergency and Critical Care service at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Harold Davis, RVT, VTS (ECC), is Manager of the Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Service at the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of the University of California at Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
