To this end, the authors' objectives are to describe the forms of clinical practice and professional competence; indicate the relationship between advanced practice and clinical governance; describe the nature of practice in the U.K.'s multicultural society; describe the impact of advanced practice in the wider arena of healthcare. The objectives are worthy and the book meets them.
Audience:According to the authors, they wrote the book to define advanced practice nursing today in the U.K., and it is targeted to advanced practice nurses in the U.K. and other countries. Both authors are credible authorities.
Features:The authors discuss the full scope of advanced practice nursing regarding its development, current practice, today's need for cultural competence, greater autonomy in practice, and the APN role within the larger healthcare and political arenas. The comparison of past and current advanced nursing practice is particularly useful and insightful.
Assessment:As an adult nurse practitioner, I found this book valuable in describing thedevelopment of practice in the past five years by expressly addressing overall practice rather than specific nursing care. This edition is notable for its description of current advanced practice, and is needed because of the recent developments.
