A great reference for a growing area of the industry

It may seem as if photojournalism and wedding photography are two separate things, but they marry very well. in fact weddings are about moments, and anyone who has been married would like to be able to capture those moments, and the lost moments that they were too busy to enjoy themselves. Staged photographs look exactly like that - staged. When you start to follow the tenets of photojournalism then you begin to capture the essence of the emotions that make weddings special.

I think that Ms. Dorr does an excellent job at relaying these practices. It's extremely amusing to see quotes from Henri Cartier-Bresson in a book about wedding photography and shows me that the photographer is well read, well rounded and really has something to offer!

    Enthusiastically Recommend--

This book may be titled "Advanced" but it is an easy read for the professional photographer that is looking to delve into or progress through the realm of photojournalism or the amateur photographer that is looking to improve their skills. The imagery in the book matches the text perfectly to illustrate the topics being discussed. The pictures are vibrant with plenty of feeling and captions to describe the way the picture was achieved.Tracy has taken this blooming style of wedding photography and made it so even the most traditional photographers would feel comfortable trying their hand in photojournalism. From the start of the book to the end every section is packed with tips and ideas of how to execute a successful photojournalistic shoot while allowing the bride to feel relaxed and enjoy the day.Another pleasant surprise was the lack of discussion about equipment. The book focused on the actual techniques of photojournalism without getting hung up on the equipment side of things. So do not expect a discussion about the latest and greatest cameras or lens. There is only a brief reference to the equipment that could help with photojournalism, but no specifics about the equipment. This allows the book to really focus on wedding photojournalism like the title states. I would definitely recommend this book for either the professional or intermediate/advanced amateur that is even thinking about photojournalism.

    Highly Recommended

I was extremely impressed with the author's ability to articulate the keys to capturing the precious moments of every wedding day. What really caught my attention was the emphasis on the little details that often go overlooked. In this genre, it's not what you know, but how well you can present it to others and Ms. Dorr does this as well as anyone else I've read. I'm an experienced wedding photographer and I found several tips and tricks that I've already begun using on my shoots. I highly recommend this book to all wedding photographers, whether they are just starting out or have been shooting weddings for years and are just looking for some new tricks to add to their repertoire.

    Inspirational

Ms. Dorr raises the bar of standards for contemporary wedding photography by challenging her fellow photographers to diligently seek to achieve images of emotional resonance. Through insight into what she has learned in nearly eight years as a wedding photographer, Ms. Dorr provides a foundation for achieving a final product that contains less disconnection and more meaning. She inspires all photographers to approach their work with extreme care and patience; to really connect with their clients and to wait until "the decisive moment" to capture their true personality. Ms. Dorr also inspires photographers to challenge themselves to think outside the box, achieve their own unique style, and to present their work with pride. A very inspiring read.
