Exclusive CD! Brooks&Dunn's "Gotta Get Me One of Those" inside!

Musicians by trade, Slim and Howdy have each come to a figurative crossroads in their lives. As fate would have it, they meet at these crossroads, never realizing it's a turning point in their lives. Forced by circumstances to share a truck, they take to the road in pursuit of a common goal--to make it as musicians on the country music circuit.
But it seems no matter where these two travel, trouble finds them. Whether it's turning the tables on a crooked card shark who takes everything they have, or fending off the raging boyfriend of that friendly gal from last night, the guys are constantly needing to outwit the world. And when their friend and boss Jodie Lee disappears, their resourcefulness will truly be tested. Each of the guys has his theory, but they'll need to work together to get to their friend before time runs out.

Editorial Reviews

If you don't recognize the names of Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn, you don't know country music. Their duo, Brooks & Dunn, have sold more than 30 million records and won more Country Music Association awards and Academy of Country Music awards than any other act in history. Perhaps not surprisingly, their first novel follows the trail of two fledgling country songsters. At every turn, Slim and Howdy encounter uncertainties and challenges far beyond the contents of any entertainment guidebook. And when their friend Jodie Lee vanishes, their career aspirations become the least of their worries….
Publishers Weekly

Country music superstars Brooks & Dunn have enjoyed massive success (30 million albums sold, dozens of awards), but surely a novel about their alter egos couldn't possibly excite anybody outside of die-hard fans, could it? Actually, the duo, along with novelist Fitzhugh, bash out a comic caper that has enough plot twists and nutty one-liners to hook even twang-haters. The book follows lanky, laconic Slim and romantic, goofy Howdy as the two troubadours ramble around the Texas honky-tonk circuit. There's the time Slim, armed with a pair of hedge clippers, reclaims his stolen guitar from Brushfire Boone; or the hot double date that ends with a pantsless Howdy dodging bullets. The boys land a steady gig at a roadhouse in Del Rio until its owner is kidnapped and ransomed. With no shortage of suspects, the boys follow the trail into the Mexican desert, where a zany cast of bad guys gathers for the boffo final shootout. It's like a particularly good episode of The Dukes of Hazzard: corny as hell, but heaps of fun. (May)

Leave it to Brooks & Dunn to create a tale that could be a song or possibly a movie. A quick read that has plenty of action packed inside to keep one interested in the plot or plots. The characters are full of dust and denim, bolo ties and white lies, cheap bars and guitars, pickup trucks and everyone down on their luck. In the heat of the west, where cards are held close to the vest, cheaters are taken out fast, from hidden pistols that blast. So without giving away the story ,saddle up your horse and hit the trail to your local Barnes and Noble.

You don't have to be a country music lover to enjoy this alter ego Brooks & Dunn escapade. It's a whole lot like line dancin'--you get into the swing as you move along. I also recommend another fun cowboy adventure: One Step Over The Border, by Stephen Bly.
