Children's Literature - Denise Daley
The concept of adverbs can be challenging for children to comprehend. This unique and colorful book uses simple vocabulary and captivating photographs to explain adverbs in a way that young readers can understand. Each page of large-sized text has only four to five sentences. A sample sentence is included on each page, in smaller text with the example adverb italicized. The sample sentence corresponds to a playful photograph that engagingly and appealingly reinforces the topic. The three types of adverbs are explained, as are irregular forms of adverbs. The book concludes with a "Mad Lib" where the reader can supply the necessary adverbs to complete a funny story. This book is highly recommended both for introducing the topic of adverbs and for reinforcing adverb identification and usage. It will certainly enhance classroom instruction on this topic, and the bright photographs will attract young readers. This book is part of the "Grammar Basics" series. Reviewer: Denise Daley
