Description: Take a well-illustrated and professionally written book on aesthetic plastic surgery of the face and body and add an online source for videos, and you get this rendition of Dr. Guyuron's atlas.
Purpose: The intent is to enliven the written word with intraoperative videos depicting actual procedures.
Audience: The atlas is designed to enable both residents and veterans in plastic surgery to experientially increase their knowledge in aesthetic plastic surgery. The chapters are penned by a variety of credible authors.
Features: Beautifully illustrated plates, photos, and diagrams adorn the book's 22 chapters. Each unit is uniformly conceived with a beginning summary of pertinent information, a review of indications and contraindications for the procedure, an orderly methodology for evaluating the patient, relevant anatomy, and the actual surgical procedure, along with the potential complications, pitfalls, and postoperative care. Topics include patient assessment, skin care, nonsurgical facial rejuvenation, botulinum toxin, laser, and surgical procedures of the scalp, face, neck, breasts, body, as well as the surgical management of migraines. The table of contents denotes which of these include online videos. The writing is uniformly excellent; however, the videos do not always match this high standard.
Assessment: There are numerous books about aesthetic plastic surgery to choose from. This one has an added enhancement, online videos that mesh with the well-conceived text.
