More About This Book

Overview

Afghanistan Revealed aims to enlighten readers on one of the world's most complex and fascinating countries. This ebook takes us beyond the media focus on politics and war into the lives of the Afghan people, and the forces that have shaped their individual and collective history.

A range of distinguished specialists provide insights from the earliest Aryan migrations and the emergence of Islam, through Afghanistan's role as a key Central Asian trade centre, the Anglo-Afghan wars and the Soviet invasion, to the emergence of a post-Taliban state. We are reminded of how the Afghans have suffered in centuries of violent conflict and have stubbornly resisted all efforts to invade and dominate their land. We are presented with the tasks Afghanistan faces after the 2014 withdrawal of NATO-led combat troops, specifically the need to rebuild the country, tap into its huge economic potential, and provide political and social harmony.

Readable and accessible, Afghanistan Revealed is essential background for anyone wishing to understand why peace and stability in the region have been so elusive. It is also an indispensable tool for foreign and Afghan policymakers who play a role in determining Afghanistan's future.

I really enjoyed Afghanistan Revealed and learned a great deal. A wonderful book for anyone who
wishes to know more about Afghanistan, it's history, culture and people. So many are risking their lives
to ensure a safe future for this country about which many of us know so little. The extremely
knowledgeable contributors have been brought together to create a very readable view of Afghanistan.
I am sure it will also appeal to anyone who has loved ones in the Services, or anyone who is working
in Afghanistan. It should be available in all libraries .

This is a must read book. It lays out simply, yet evocatively the history, culture and the nuanced complexities of Afghanistan. A country, that has fascinated researchers, explorers, strategists and soliders for centuries.
Each chapter reveals something different and makes us thirsty to read more. I would highly recommend this book to the first time reader on Afghanistan, as well as to those who lived and served in this endlessly fascinating country. Afghanistan has inspired all whom have heard about her or crossed her mountainous terrain. Enjoy the read. Its well very well worth your time and attention. Highly recommended!

A beautifully written and well constructed book by distinguished specialists passionate about Afghanistan who wish to share this with others. Thought provoking insight into this often misunderstood country with its charming people and stunning landscapes; a rare glimpse behind the often negative press.

I would recommend it to anyone interested in Afghanistan wishing to discover more about the history that shaped it, the extrordinary changes over the last decade and the future challenges that lie ahead.
