Overview

After the Hunt explores man's hunting history from cave man through American colonization. Travel through time as ancient man learns to create tools, nets and traps for hunting then, cultivates a gluttonous taste for wild game delicacies and grand game banquets that continue for days. From China to Egypt from Greece to Rome, the hunt was a revered sport that prepared men for war. Visit game parks of the noblemen and review the hunting privileges that were reserved for the aristocracy alone. Through Medieval Europe to the Renaissance the hunt was immortalized in paintings, tapestries, china, furniture, symphonies and song. With every page the reader comes to understand that man's love affair with hunting is not just about the kill, but about the pursuit of an ancient, innate treasure. Conquer the wilds of North America with early colonists and travel down the Mississippi River to the "Land of Louis" for a glimpse into Louisiana's magnificent hunting camps. After the Hunt is a compilation of countless historical images, dazzling color and tantalizing food photography that pays proper homage to Louisiana as Sportsman's Paradise and to the hunter of yesterday, today and tomorrow. More than 500 unique game and game fish recipes are included in this 870-page tome. Whether you're cooking wild boar or woodcock, squirrel or squab, teal or tuna, you'll find a unique recipe in this book. Tallyho!

    Not your every day cookbook

I got this for my brother-in-law. I liked the fact that there were recipes you wouldn't find in any other book.

    Fabulous book!

It's not often I find a book that goes from coffee table to kitchen counter on a regular basis. For wild game and hunting enthusiasts, this is the perfect gift. It is full of great photos, history and recipes. I have bought numerous copies for gifts and every recipient has been thrilled. It's got so much information and the format is huge, which makes it a bit cumbersome to move around, but it's worth the trouble.

Great resource & coffee table book

My husband brought this book home. When I saw the beautiful photos and historical articles (not to forget...the great recipes) I was hooked and bought 2 more-one for our 22 year old son and the other for a Christmas present.

Fascinating, beautifully presented tome of the hunt and its rewards.

This magnificent book is very unusual-almost historical in its approach to the hunt. We have used many of the recipes and have purchased several to give as gifts. It is truly a one of a kind book purchase.

This book is perfect for any hunter or anyone who receives the fruits of a hunt. The variety of recipes for each type of wild game almost ensures you will find a preparation you will enjoy. The beginning anthropology sections on hunting are an interesting read as well.

This is a comprehensive book on game recipes that has wonderful color photos as well as old vintage hunting photos throughout the book. It is way more than a 'recipe' book, its more like a history book of hunting in the south with an emphasis on the old hunting camps of Louisiana.
