Overview

THE APOCALYPSE: A chimera devastates the human population. Technology fails and infrastructure crumbles. Civilization collapses. AFTER: A generation apart, two women and the men who love them make incredible sacrifices to survive, and to destroy a brutal system of sexual slavery in a world where men outnumber women ten-to-one. After two years roaming the devastated South alone, eighteen-year-old Eva is captured and held prisoner by the few surviving soldiers at a military base, who haven't seen a woman since The Dying. In Eva, Major Smith sees only the future of the human race, and he'll exceed all moral boundaries to ensure she gives birth to the next generation. But Eva and John--the man she is paired with--are determined to fight for freedom and a better future. Two decades later, on the other side of the country, a Resistance woman is captured and brutally punished for subverting the Sex Laws. When she flees to the Resistance, Nix must decide if the man who helped her escape can be trusted, or if he's a spy using her to infiltrate the counter-slavery movement. As Nix makes her way east, her story twines with Eva's in a way neither woman could have imagined.

(O)ne of the most interesting books I have read in a long, long time. It takes place sometime in the future after the death of most of the world?s population. I kept wondering what would happen next. Would it all work out for the best or would the worse happen? This book is definitely worth the time to sit down and read it.

After is not a book which can be read in one sitting. It is a complicated study of men and women at both their best and worst--when choice has been stripped away and then alternate options discovered. I found it both dark and desperate twined round hopeful and optimistic with a dash of wit and humor sprinkled along to leaven it. The people and situations at times are so real that I clenched my teeth in anger, wiped my eyes in sorrow and simply shook my head in resignation ...

Absolutely hypnotic. Vivid, heartbreaking, fast paced, compelling, thought provoking, terrifying, erotic, beautiful, yet dark and everything in between. I loved it, its characters resonated with me, and I absolutely cannot recommend this book enough.

Genius plot!! We read this for our bookclub. It's on the longer side but I liked that because we got a lot of details. This book is amazing. The plot, the characters were great. I had my favorite & least favorite & I wanted to know so badly what was going to happen to all of them! I kept wanting to turn to the next page to see what was happening next.  Filled with horror, drama, romance, action & mystery. It's a must read.

This book took me completely out of my comfort zone.  I am not usually one for post-apocalyptic stories, although the ones I have read, I've loved.  But this author, Varian Krylov, wow, there is just nothing like her writing.  I have never FELT so much with the flow of a story, with all the right wording, and all the right timing, the connections.....it was absolutely flawless!  I just cannot say enough about her, and this is the first book I've had the pleasure of reading by her.  Without a doubt, I will be going back to read all of her books!  Her writing sucks you into the book....you are there with the characters....it's just amazing! Eva was such a strong character with a determination to make things so much better for all who survived. She had a way of showing the men, who had basically evolved into barbarians, a way to love and be loved, and a way to build a "new" structured family, so they could live in peace and happiness. It was all very thought provoking. Mind you, this was a very dark read.  There were many disturbing scenes, so this may not be for everyone.  There are 2 parts to this book and it seriously felt like I went from Book 1 to Book 2......effortlessly.  It was nice that the author didn't split these up like she could have and left us hanging after Part 1!! Refreshing that both parts were packaged into one great book! This was a 10 star read for me just for the writing alone....but the storyline.....I will never forget this book, NEVER!

Well written, engaging story with complex characters making difficult decisions under extraodinary circumstances. Scary, sexy, enraging and sad all rolled into one multilayerd, multi demensional tale. Wonderful read for those who are not faint hearted.

This is one of the best books I have ever read. I read really a lot, from classics, to paranormal romance, to SF, to erotica, and this is hands down one of my favorite books of all time. I laughed at parts, balled my eyes out at many others, and became completely entrenched in the lives of these stunning characters. This book spans human psychology and sexuality. I absolutely loved this book!
