Overview

Available as a digital anthology for the first time from Cosmo Red-Hot Reads from Harlequin, enjoy Afterburn and Aftershock from America's premier author of provocative fiction, #1 New York Times Bestselling author Sylvia Day. A sizzling miniseries about unexpected reunions, bittersweet revenge, and the fight for redemption.

Afterburn

The realization that Jax still affected me so strongly was a jagged pill to swallow. He'd only been part of my life for five short weeks two years ago. But now he was back. Walking into a deal I'd worked hard to close. And God, he was magnificent. His eyes were a brown so dark they were nearly black. Thickly lashed, they were relentless in their intensity. Had I really thought they were soft and warm? There was nothing soft about Jackson Rutledge. He was a hard and jaded man, cut from a ruthless cloth.

In that moment I understood how badly I wanted to unravel the mystery of Jax. Bad enough that I didn't mind how much it was going to cost me…

Aftershock

When it came to playing games, my lover Jax was a master strategist. He pulled strings behind the closed doors of D.C.'s most powerful political players, and somehow still found time to nearly sideline my career. What he didn't know was that when I didn't like the rules, I threw them out and made my own. I wasn't going to let Jax get away with it. I wasn't going to let him get away at all.

I loved Jax enough that it was impossible to give up. Jax loved me enough that giving up was the only end he'd consider. He didn't think I could swim with the sharks. It was entirely my pleasure to show him that I'd already dived in…

    You Must Check it out

Sylvia Day is a great writer her stories make you vested in the life of her characters. Afterburn/Aftershock is a great read with the emotional roller coaster ride we expect from her. You will not be disappointed.

I really enjoyed this series. It¿s perfect for a fast paced, sex

I really enjoyed this series. It’s perfect for a fast paced, sexy read. Gianna has landed her dream job and is slowly trying to put her broken heart back together. That’s going well until the heartbreaker Jackson walks back into her life. Gianna and Jax cannot deny the sparks that still fly between them. Gianna wants what Jax refuses to give and things get complicated when he interferes with her job. At the end of AB I was very glad I had AS available to read. When Gianna vows to unearth the secrets she knows Jax is hiding I immediately had to dive right back in. Sylvia Day’s writing is top notch and I like how she uses a wide range of descriptions so the story stays fresh and never gets redundant. At the beginning of AS, Gianna and Jax’s relationship is progressing rather quickly and both are adjusting. Gianna is very likeable as a female lead.  She’s dedicated to her career, has a great relationship with her family and most importantly she has no problem standing up for herself. She’s a girl who isn’t afraid to speak her mind and tell Jax exactly what she needs from him. She also has no problem giving the cold shoulder when needed. When a certain secret from Jax’s past is revealed, the two must decide if they’re strong enough to stick it out. The epilogue is short and sweet and will leave you satisfied. But I wouldn’t mind more of their story.

    Just OKAY!

This wasn't a bad read but it wasn't anything exciting either. It completely lacks originality! If this is what Ms. Day as been working on in between finishing the Crossfire series I am perplexed as to why she even bothered. Everything about this mini series is the same as the Crossfire series. The female lead is just getting started on her career as, you guessed it, someone's assistant...Male lead is a hot millionaire control freak who has secrets, family issues, can't commit and interferes with her job. They fight constantly resulting in someone storming out, usually her. He stalks her everywhere she goes and they eventually have steamy make-up sex. REPEAT again and again....sound familiar? Same story different characters!
I only bought this because it was on sale for $1.99. It's not even 200 NOOK pages between the 2 books. I feel sorry for anyone who paid more for them. Another disappointment from Ms. Day. The Crossfire series has been a total let down. I was a new reader to her work with that series. After what's shaping up to be at least a 2 year wait and cost the of 2 more books to complete the story she will not be keeping me as a fan. I'm sorry I even gave her a second chance with this one. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!
