The realization that Jax still affected me so strongly was a jagged pill to swallow. He'd only been part of my life for five short weeks two years ago. But now he was back. Walking into a deal I'd worked hard to close. And God, he was magnificent. His eyes were a brown so dark they were nearly black. Thickly lashed, they were relentless in their intensity. Had I really thought they were soft and warm? There was nothing soft about Jackson Rutledge. He was a hard and jaded man, cut from a ruthless cloth.

In that moment I understood how badly I wanted to unravel the mystery of Jax. Bad enough that I didn't mind how much it was going to cost me….

Who wants to read 100 pages and then wait 3 months for another 100 pages. Thats if the author keeps her word. Her greed is unreal.

Is there a reason that author's can't write a full-length book anymore?  I love Sylvia Day's books, but I feel like I have been tricked into buying this book!  I feel like she wrote enough to make the publisher happy and then just stopped!  There is no ending or even a "kind of" ending.  She literally quit writing at the end of a paragraph, and now we have to wait and then purchase another book.  Bad form!!

It was ok. I think if the book was longer, the characters would be more developed. I would have like more than 102 pages..
I'm not sure if I want to buy the next book. I would like to know what happens with Jax and Gia but I'm not a lover of short stories.
I guess I will think about it while the next book is released.

    100 pages for $$$

Really? 100 pages.... and we have to wait three months for another measly 100 pages. No thank you. I will gladly pay for a great book, but this is a bit much for nothing.

If i ever buy a sd book again, i will wait till the prices drop!

I bought the last book in the cf series for$15.99. Felt ripped off then. I thought i would give her books 1 last chance. 100 pages... and now it has dropped to $1. I have read much better $1 books. What is happening to you sylvia? When i discovered you last year i thought it would be the begining of a long reader/author relationship. I am breaking up with you. I wont be "after"burned by you again!

    Too much sex, no ending

This is my first and last time reading this author. The story was not a full book, only 100 pages. The main male character has nothing likeable about him, although I kept looking for a behavior change to explain his reasons for jis terrible treatment of her peesonally and professionally. A large number of the 100 pages were devoted to very explicit sex and language. The book ends with Gianna, the main character, warning him that she will play games jist like he's done with her professionally. Very confusing and disappointing read.

Sylvia Day did it again! I love the story. I can't wait to read the second book. The only negative thing is that it was to short.

This was an ok story. But these characters aren't interesting enough for me to buy the next book or any more that would follow.

Sad that the story is not finished!

I will agree with everyone else. I love sylvia day books but this business of making us pay for 100 pages and then wait for the rest of the book (or the middle and then again for the end) is getting old. Sell us a whole book or nothing. I am going to get my books from the library only if this keeps up. If you want to intoduce us to a series then sell it for .99 or give it to us for FREE, and tell us! You will loose alot of fans at this rate.

I have had the same complaint on this author for few years now. Books get offered - she or the publisher says "series," or "trilogy" and then either the next one does not get written or produced. Even with series where the first book won an award. It's frustrating and unfortunate. She can certainly write entertaining books, but I'd rather not bother to many people can write a good or great book in this genre to waste my time on something she may or may not finish.

    2.5 out of 5 stars

I liked this story but it took a while for me to get into it. I thought Jax and Gianna where interesting characters and had a huge push-pull on one another. They have a history together, which was touched upon, but I wish I would have learned more.

Jax and Gianna seem to pick things back up immediately after they reconnect and there is still a major attraction there. Gianna was an interesting character, she seemed strong and determined but when it came to Jax, I couldn’t tell if she was coming or going sometimes. Jax seemed to be sexy, cocky, and confident. I wanted to learn more about his character because he seemed to be more than what he showed the world. Jax and Gianna have hot chemistry and there were some major sexy times in the second half of the book.

I thought it was good overall but I felt like I was trying to figure things out a lot of the time and was really trying to wrap my head around their relationship. It ended with a bit of a cliffhanger. I did think this was a decent story and I am curious as to what happens next but I don’t know if I ever felt invested enough with the characters to want to carry on with book two, Aftershock. I’ll have to wait for it to come out before I decide.

    Quick, hot read!

I wouldn't recomment it at all. It is a cheap knock off of Fifty Shades of Grey. Alot of the same things that happened in Fifty Shades happened in Afterburn.

This story is scattered and irritating. It's too short for the money. There are so many other books that are better, longer, more available in the series than Sylvia Day's books. I'm about done with her.

    It was ok

I was so excited to get this because I love Sylvia Day. This was only 10 chapters. Although they showed a past with the characters they didn't show the why. I will be buying the next installment because I want to see the closure.
