America's premier author of provocative fiction delivers the dramatic finale to a series set within the inner circle of glamour, sex and privilege.

When it came to playing games, my lover, Jax, was a master strategist. He pulled strings behind the closed doors of D.C.'s most powerful political players and somehow still found time to nearly sideline my career. What he didn't know was that when I didn't like the rules, I threw them out and made my own. I wasn't going to let Jax get away with it. I wasn't going to let him get away at all.

I loved Jax enough that it was impossible to give up. Jax loved me enough that giving up was the only end he'd consider. He didn't think I could swim with the sharks. It was entirely my pleasure to show him that I'd already dived in….

    Release date moved....shocker!!

Will definitely NOT be buying any of her books again. Scheduled to be released Nov 12, and they announce Nov 11 that it won't be released until March 2014. Same crap she pulled with the Crossfire series.

    Great Read!

This book was a short story to me but it was packed with a ton of awesome things. No spoilers from me. I loved how the author got things going and left things to the imigination for the next book. I love Syliva Day and all her work and this book offers you all the great stuff she delivers!!! Can't wait for the next book to come out. Highly recommend!

Seems that Sylvia Day has gotten a bit too big for the people that supported her back when she didn't have a publisher. I was reading her rude comments to fans who were upset about the crossfire series. Basically , in a very snarky way she told some fans that if they don't want to reread the crossfire series while waiting ( REDICULOUSLY LONG) for the next book in the series then it wasn't the series for them. She has a new air about her and its not nice :( . I'm not buying this book .... I liked the first one and was excited for this to be released but honestly - I'm not even sure I'm excited for crossfire anymore. Her lack of care for her fans has surpassed my desire to witness the HEA.. think about EL James .... Never changed once she  made it  big. Sylvia has  and  I'm just not feeling her anymore.

    An okay but disappointing conclusion…

Gianna is angry at Jax but still deeply in love with him and ready to fight for him, for them. She stands up for herself and shows him that she can play the games like he does, something her family doesn’t like and neither does Jax. It is this and the fact that she is willing to fight for them that forces Jax to make some serious changes in his life.

Jax has a quandary, how does he keep Gianna in his life without her losing what he loves about her? He can no longer not have her in his life and he is forced to really look at things and determine his true priorities. The reason for his behavior is finally revealed but there was no depth of feeling about it and the relationship with his father was never really elaborated on.

I really liked these two characters and expected more from the conclusion. The author didn’t seem to care as much about this story in the second half as in the first half. This story should never have been split apart, it is better to read it in its entirety. From page one this half felt rushed and there was not the emotional depth seen in the first part which made this disappointing. This second half was also not as well edited which was a surprise considering the long delay in publication (2 errors in part one versus 22 in part two).

This reader is no longer reading piecemeal but will wait for the story in its entirety to be published before reading, no more suffering of parts of books or cliffhangers.

The story ended at 83% followed by a Cosmo questionnaire which was an unwelcomed addition.

    Meh

While I love Sylvia Day. I just felt there was so much more that could have been said about these characters and story. I just felt it was rushed and after waiting so long for it I just wanted more. I wanted to emotionaly connect with the characters more. There was only one scene where I felt connected. While I recommend reading it to find out what happens to Jax and Gia it's more of a throw away book and not a treasured memory.

Meh... I agree with some of the reviews, this one was way too short and not worth the extra 4 months of wait time. I don't think I'll try to get into another of her series after this disappointment. It was just ok.

    Hmm

Loved the first book in the series. This second book took 30 minutes to read and was over before I knew it. I'm kind of disappointed that I waited an extra 4 months to get it. I was excited for the next chapter and now I feel like it was a waste. Darn it!

    Not Worth It

I hate how she writes a very short book and then further insults the reader by splitting it into two books. I will not be reading Sylvia Day again. There are a lot better authors out there that don't screw you over with having to buy two books to get a short story instead of a true novel.

This book was one long argument. It was so frustrating to read. It was incredibly disappointing. There was nothing "red hot" about this read. All everyone did was fight the whole time. It wasn't worth the wait at all.

I love Sylvia Day. Although this two book series is too short, it is just what you need. Aftershock continued the story began in Afterburn and like the first book it is fun and sexy. It has a HEA so for me it was perfect.

“Gia." Jax caught my upper arm as I moved to pass him. "I've got this. Don't stress."
"Easy for you to say." I told him, my chin lifting. "You don't have anything on the line."
His jaw tightened. "I love you. I've got everything on the line.”
