Overview

"I am a Russian-born American citizen and Jewish. I have been raised during the oppressive Soviet regime and fortunate enough to leave it behind. This political memoir is my contribution to show people the contrast between what I have experienced and what we are experiencing in the United States currently. AfterTastes and Tales from Russia (Forgive me for being anti Social...ism) is part memoirs, part political analysis and opinions. The point I try to make is simple, that socialism has never worked and I provide my childhood memories, experiences and analysis on why. AfterTastes and Tales from Russia is a book that will reach out to the people of all political spectrum and race. I provide examples on how the non-religious, atheist society may still be very prejudiced and, in fact, more prejudiced than a free society. I want to help save this nation, so my book is as much from the heart as it is from my knowledge."

The author wrote a book to warn the Americans. If you are Russian person, I am sure that there are a lot of similarities in those tales from the former Soviet Union citizen to yours, but for us, Americans, this is a must read and must have. If more people read this book before the election, perhaps America would not make the same mistake for the second time. This man, while a boy, has truly experienced some socialist society dangers and to have this available, and not take advantage of this information is just silly. Get this book, read it and share the information with your family and friends.

    Great addition to political library

I enjoy other cultures and what we see in American politics right now, speaks the world of what others have done before. The author's childhood stories and political comparisons, should wake some people up. Great read and highly recommended.

Very easy reading page turner. The stories, the life of the author and comparison to what we are heading to in US is a great example of how a society can destroy itself and destroy the people, citizens of that society. Great read and I highly recommend it.

    Must Read

I started reading this book and could not put it down until I finished reading. It does capture you not only because the story is relevant to what we, former Soviet citizens, have experienced. It captures you because you can relate what was happening in Soviet Union in early seventies to what is happening in the USA in the past 4 years. It is through the eyes of a little Jewish boy growing up under "the regime" we see all the lies of government officials about "all people being equal", and "everybody should have an equal opportunity", and "our life is becoming better through our governments hard work". It is a must read for our college students to help them understand that your government reports about higher housing sales and lower unemployment rates two weeks before the election are not necessarily truthful when your father is still unemployed, and your neighbor's house is foreclosing. This is an excellent book to help people who grew up taking democracy and freedom for granted to understand that they can and WILL lose it if they are not paying attention to what is going on in their country. "People I love you. Be on your guard", were the last words of Julius Fuchik, the fighter against fascism. Be on your guard and make the right choice is a slogan of this book.
