During the 1970 summer season of the Rigby Repertory Theater in Yorkshire, Algernon Jagat, a very handsome Indian playing the role of Claudius, unwittingly drinks poison on stage and dies. Fellow theater workers who stand out as suspects include Timothy Selkirk, the current youth in Jagat's life. The repercussions of Selkirk's ancillary involvement incite amazing national attention.
