The second book in Kat Martin's Brodie's of Alaska series delivers an awesome punch of suspense and romance. This is the first series that I've read by Martin, and I haven't been disappointed. Nick . . . well, I wouldn't mind being in Samantha's shoes. Ex-cop, ex-Ranger, and still saving those who need to be saved. His little cabin on a lake in nowhere Alaska is not only a great place for some murder and mayhem to happen, but for a reader to get lost, which is exactly what happens. I was transported back to Alaska, and I didn't want to leave. Samantha is great, or at least was after I had a few chapters to truly appreciate her. As a woman, I couldn't quite agree with everything she did in regards to Nick, but in the end, I was rooting for her. She's tough when she toughness was needed. She cooks and she likes dogs, both of which make her a pretty cool person in my book. The chemistry between Nick and Samantha was great, and though I thought it started out too fast, it quickly became apparent why, and the storyline was a nice addition. The suspense built up at a nice and steady climb, and just when you thought there was a lull, you get another dose of hang-onto-your-seats excitement. Now I'm most definitely looking forward to book three. For those who don't mind super-steamy books, I recommend this action-packed Alaskan romantic thriller. Sexual Content: The only thing that kept this from being a re-read for me were the excessive number of sex scenes. Although the first book had a few scenes, this one had a lot more. It became distracting because I tend to skip those pages, which meant I had to do a lot of skipping.

Against the Sky by Kat Martin is a book in her ‘Brodies of Alaska” series.   Against the Sky opens in Vegas when Nick saves Samantha from a drunk guy in her hotel.  Nick is a retired cop living in Alaska. His brother convinces him to take a break and buys him a ticket to Vegas.  Nick retired after seeing too much evil in his job.  Samantha is a marketing agent for a chain of pet day cares. I liked how she was able to use her skills to help Nick with research.    They have a fling while in Vegas and learn what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas.  Nick asks her to come out for a visit and she agrees.  They get to know each other better while Nick is helping his neighbor Jimmy, a young teen, in dealing with his father’s death that Jimmy feels was not as it seems.   I liked how Nick called his brother when Samantha reveals her secret.  I liked how Samantha would cook for them and they were so excited.  I was slightly annoyed at the repeated thoughts of how they didn’t think they were compatible because of locations without actually discussing it.  Against the Sky is an action packed romantic suspense with strong male and female leads.   His brother Lane was the lead in Against the Wild.  I had not read that one yet and didn’t feel that I missed anything.  Each book stands alone.   You can see my full review at More Than a Review dot com where I rate the level of sex, violence, language and drug/alcohol use in books.

Against the Sky is a romance/suspense/thriller. I am usually not into thriller books but this one had me captivated from the beginning. This is the story of Nick Brody, a detective who is tired of the horrors he has seen and decides he needs a change. His brother gives him a plane ticket to Las Vegas for a little R&R. Samantha Hollis is in Vegas for a convention. She is accosted by a drunk in the hall of her hotel and Nick comes to the rescue, and this turns into a weekend fling. Their weekend has unexpected results and Nick invites Samantha to Alaska for a few weeks. While there, they become involved in a murder mystery which leads to kidnapping, arson and a host of other events that draws to two closer together against all the odds of their differences. This was a great book.

This was the first in the series that I had read. Some things are a little far fetched, such as a internet marketing person doing criminal research. The two characters go through some unbelievable things and can't figure out their own relationship. It was just a little different, but an ok read.

I absolutely love Kat Martin's books. I found them by accident and have since bought all of them in the Against the ..... series. This particular book is about number 13. Ms. Martin has a great talent for combining romance and mystery. I find that when I start one of her books, I have trouble putting it down until it's finished.

What a wonderful read! I started it after dinner and then stayed up until 1 a.m. to finish it! Enough action, romance and suspense to keep you turning the page. I have read many of Ms. Martins books and have never been disappointed. Nick Brodie is my new book boyfriend! Definitely recommend you read this one!

Great Book! This is a great book; this is the second book of The Brodies of Alaska series by Kat Martin. Nick is a former detective with the Anchorage, Alaska police department; he left for force after a bad case. His brother buys him a plane ticket to Las Vegas, and figures that this is a great way to figure out what he is going to do. He meets Samantha in Vegas and asks her to visit him in Alaska after their hot night together. While in Alaska trouble seems to find them, they must fight to stay alive. Once I started reading this book, I could not put it down until I finished it. This book has it all romance, mystery, and suspense. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.  A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

I was completely absorbed after the first page late yesterday afternoon when I started reading the 11th Volume in the series shown above. I know that anyone who has been reading all the Volumes in this series, will find it hard to put their NOOK down and go to bed as I did last night; after this novel was downloaded onto my NOOK. I began reading it again this morning at 4:30 AM and was already wishing I wouldn't have to wait until sometime in June when I finished this novel around 8:30 AM, for her next novel in this series AGAINST THE TIDE to be released. Anyone who starts this book will find it hard to put down as it is has your attention from Page 1! As usual, I'd say this is another winner for Kat.

The Brodies are heating up the cold Alaskan winters!  Against The Sky takes us into the beautiful locales of Alaska in all its wild winter glory, as Nick Brody and Samantha Hollis fight their growing attraction to each other.  A chance meeting between ex-homicide detective Nick Brody and business owner Samantha Hollis in the Sin City sets the stage for a romance between them. Having scorched the bed sheets with a life changing consequences, Samantha decides to accept Nick’s invitation to Alaska to give their desire for each other a chance to develop into a relationship. But Alaska is anything but quiet and slow, because under the big sky lurks danger that threatens the lives of loved ones. With betrayal and evil shadowing them, Nick and Samantha have to trust each other to survive kidnapping and death, if they want to want to get a chance at a future. I love Kat Martin’s Raines Series – one of my favorites. And the Brodies are a close second. Kat Martin did a fabulous job of weaving romance and suspense as Nick and Samantha try to bridge the distance in their lives. I loved the way their characters did justice to their roles, as they try to understand each other, the subtleties of life that take over their existence and the doubts and insecurities that dog a relationship.  An invigorating read filled with enough romance and suspense to keep our hearts pulsing and minds racing.

Kat Martin brings us another Brodie to stare in awe at. Nick is a detective; he’s seen more evil than he cares to think about on his job. A brief trip to Vegas is just what he needs, but he wasn’t prepared for Samantha Hollis or what would become of their hot, one night stand. When the big alpha male invites the strong-willed lady to Alaska, Samantha decides this could be an adventure. She had no idea…aside from discovering she does not want to be stranded in Alaska, murder, mayhem and the Russian mob are sorely testing both of their resolves, just to stay alive. Can Nick protect Samantha? Can Samantha let him? Will love conquer the great divide between a city girl and a warrior who likes his terrain as tough as he is? Against the Sky by Kat Martin sizzles enough to melt a polar icecap. She allows these two polar opposite to find that elusive chemistry that the world craves, but their differences present enough of a challenge that one wonders I love can conquer all or not. Kick in the suspense and danger from the Russian mob and voila! Romantic suspense! Sure, Samantha was out of her element, to put it mildly, but I almost offered to buy her a ticket out! Overall, another wonderful hot alpha, hot suspense tale from Kat Martin that threatens to speed up global warming.

**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review** An Excellent Thriller- Nick lives in Alaska where was a homicide detective but he quit his job. He was tired of seeing so much that he had nightmares at night. Jimmy Evans is a 12 year old and Nicks neighbor. His father just died and his mother died when he was 6 in a car accident. He has no siblings. Nick met Jimmy one Summer and hired him to do odd jobs. Nick can sympathize with Jimmy as he lost his parents, but he has two older brothers, Dylan and Rafe. They sent him a ticket to go to Las Vegas, where he meets Samantha Hollis, a co-partner of Perfect Pup Grooming Saloons. Nick and Samantha spend the better part of three days together, eventually becoming lovers. The time comes for both of them to leave and go home. Jimmy goes to Nick and believes his dad was murdered, not dead from a heart attack. Samantha finds out she's pregnant and has to decide whether or not to tell Nick. Nick is very likable, willing to help anyone in need. Hes loyal, dependable and at a cross-roads in his life. Samantha is a very sweet, nice person. She's willing to help when she can. She, too is at a crossroads with the unexpected pregnancy. The authors throws plenty of twists and curves in the story, making it a really good thriller. I really enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to anybody.

A great read! The storyline kept me hooked and Nick is one sexy alpha cop. After meeting in Vegas and spending the week together, Nick invites Samantha to visit him in Alaska. Can these two opposites find love in the midst of danger? I enjoyed the story as well as the characters, this book is a part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. If you’re up for some sexy Alaskan adventure this book is for you. Enjoy!
