Editorial Reviews

Peter Heck
Walker is not content merely to create a comfortable lifestyle among the primitive locals. Driven by the desire for revenge on the Islanders, he introduces modern military technology and tactics...[and] sets Agamemnon on a course of conquest...[T]his book doesn't attempt to stand on its own feet; it's aimed almost exclusively at readers who know the first volume.

S. M. Stirling has broadened the scope of his tale about the fate of Nantucket Island, its inhabitants and USCGC Eagle, which was sailing in adjacent waters, when everything and everyone is transferred to the year 1250 B.C. The Islanders and the crew of Eagle continue to deal with a rebellious officer who makes himself the king of Greece after marrying the daughter of Agamemnon. The Republic of Nantucket seeks an alliance with the Babylonians and the war goes on with breech-loading rifles. Then comes a battle at a city named Troy. This is more high-spirited adventure told by an author who makes the inconceivable real. Real characters, real places, real action.

Not nearly as good as the first in the series. Too much jumping in time and location.

I highly reccomend this entire three-book series - you'll be amazed what you learn! The Islanders are creative, courageous, and there is enough good back-story and a few great love stories that weave through the three books to hold interst amongst the historical themes. I was so sorry when the thrid book ended - PLEASE Mr. Stirling - continue with the Islanders or take us back to right after the journey to the Caribbean - tell us more! Thanks for writing this - I am a great fan of fantasy and sci-fi but these books fall into their own unique slot - enough history to ground the story but the entire premise is fantasy and there are PLENTY of characters to root for all along . Thanks for some great readng times - your books are going to be read and re-read for many, many years! S.H.,

So be careful!! Barnes and Noble offer some good free books and one of the books in this series was one of them, I had to get the rest of the books, to see what happened, it was well written, I am no literary critic but I love Scifi and Historical fiction and History. I loved how problems were solved at a time when people remembered the modern day world didn't have access to all the tools and materials that we have now, so they made do with what they had and used historical information to make what they needed in lots of instances. Very entertaining makes you wonder how you would react if faced with similar circumstance. Since it was fiction I didn't worry too much about hard cold facts, an enjoyable read as long as there are villains there will be heros!
